Watch for changing identities in the forums here

I've gotten kind of paranoid about this recently since it's happened on about five occasions, and I have posted as "the other guy" several times without realizing it.

Everyone please pay attention to the identity that you are logged in with (top right corner).... Thane has reported several times... just yesterday, he informed me that Swampfox had switched with Steve Ives....

Yep, happened to me yesterday morning -- had me all confused. 😶 Sorry I didn't think to "stay in place" so you might be able to track it down.  I know to watch now - appears I'm SwampFox this morning.

 I see "SwampFox"  just replied in the What to look for in purchasing.... thread.  But it was not me.

Let's see if this is me, that is, SwampFox.

I opened the browser and was Smitty901.  Fortunately I checked first thing and "logged out" as Not Me before doing anything more. 

Oh, and I remembered to screen shot and forwarded it to admin@sidecar.com

I see a Discovery Channel Reality TV show in the making! 😉

This is happening more often lately, seems like almost daily now. Please continue to email me directly, preferably with a screenshot so I can see which users are getting switched. 

In some quick research this is not an issue with the forum application but within the larger Wordpress framework. That will make it more challenging to narrow down since I don't know quite where to look or whom to b!tch to. I am actively working on this but in the meantime be aware and ensure you are logged in as you, and each time you post. Once a post is made I can't change the author. Very annoying...

Oh, Jerry.....it's doing it again this morning. Off thing is, I can post as Flying Monkeys, but if I try to click on a "like" thumbs up for someone else's post, it shows that some dude named Anonymous has liked that post. When I click the "like" thumbs up again, to remove this dude Anonymous, that "like goes away....and if I click the "like" thumbs up a third time, now it recognizes it's me...theeee FlyingMonkeys...and shows that I am the one that "liked" that post.

I guess we shall never know WHO this Anonymous dude is...or is that a dudette ?

If you try to make a post and you get a very tersely worded screen that you are forbidden by the GoDaddy Firewall from doing so, please make a screenshot and get that to Jerry.  On a couple of occasions I tried to make a post and the message came up.  Jerry found that my IP address was somewhere in southern Japan.  It's almost as if some filtering software applies a randomizer to your connection and suddenly you are not in Kansas, (or Nebraska in my case) anymore and the firewall hates mismatches in such information.

Update. After thinking about this issue for a few days I had an idea about how this might be happening (user switching). You may not recall that I posted in May after we had just converted to this new forum application that I added a feature called "persistent login." A few people had mentioned that it was tedious to have to log in every day so I added a plugin to enable all logins to persist for 365 days. If that plugin was maintaining everyone's login information that might be a potential culprit to confuse those logins and allow one user to suddenly appear as another user. As I test I de-activated that plugin last week and I have not heard anyone mention about this happening recently. Forgive me if you have to log in every day now but I am not hearing about any user switching happening anymore. Please let me know if it happens to you again.

Jerry, I  can report that my log in has been  perfect,  and automatic,  from each of my 3 different  devices. No problemo, amigo.

I have not encountered the errant behavior for a couple of weeks on either of my computers that I use to access the site.  I do choose "keep me logged in" or "remember me" on both and I use FireFox browser for both devices.  Of course, that was also true when the switcheroo/doppelganger events were occurring...
