I was just going to send a PM to one of our esteemed members, but no longer have the option. I logged out, and then back in to see if that would help and nope, it still isn't there. Also clicked on the member's avatar to bring up the profile, and try the Private Message button there. It did not work for me either.
Using Firefox on a laptop, and Chrome on an Adroid device. Same results.

Yes, we did! I was hoping to get some homework done before anyone noticed but leave it to some sharp eyes and Murphy's Law to catch me out.
The story is that I am trying to save some money for the association with some of the recurring expenses. As you probably know, recurring expenses can be seemingly inexpensive in the beginning until you consider the long term costs over time. They can be a cancer on a balance sheet if not monitored and managed.
Our private messages app came up for renewal last week and it costs $125/year. We have had the premium version I think since Al moved and rebuilt the website in 2018. So a quick napkin analysis says we have invested $750 in it over time. This also means we will spend another $750 over the next 6 years unless someone makes a decision.
We use a fraction of its features - and there is a free version.
The free version works fine for what we need but it doesn't sit at the bottom of the screen just waiting for you to send a msg to someone like we have been used to. I have to add some code to put the link in the forum pages and I need to ask in the support forums how to do that. In the meantime I can add a shortcut to its own dedicated page for everyone to use. But that doesn't pop up notifications if you receive a message. Not very convenient.
So I am working thru this to provide a decent messaging app while saving the association some future money.
For now you can see how it looks in its bare-naked form here: https://sidecar.com/private-messages/ This opens up your 'inbox' and if the page is blank or empty it is because you have never sent or received any private messages.
I hope in a few days to add a button at the top of the forum pages that will highlight if you have a message waiting.
