2018-2021 Goldwing recall - crankshaft

Honda is recalling 2018-2021 Honda Goldwings because "a faulty primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft" can come loose and cause bad things to happen.
https://www.visordown.com/news/honda-gold-wing-recalled-usa
This is not the same recall as a couple years ago. That was for faulty manual transmissions.

Drew, thanks for posting that, yet...I was already aware of it. Leave it to a BMW owner to post snarky things about the very reliable Honda Goldwing, because..."I" would never peep a bad word about those BMW thingies. (okay, stop laughing)
When I bought this lightly used 2019 Goldwing w/DCT trans from my local dealer, I did the unusual (for me) and also purchased the Honda Extended Warranty, for an additional 5 years, unlimited mileage, and I bought that solely because of the bike having the DCT trans...and me adding a sidecar to the bike. I specifically asked my local dealer, in explicate details, if they will honor that extended warranty, despite the bike having a sidecar attached to it. Because these folks know me, and have been my local dealer for 18 years, lots of bike purchases and buy bikes over those years, they had no hesitation in confirming they will work on my '19 Wing....I just need to remove the sidecar if the needed work goes deep enough, that they would be encumbered by having the sidecar in the way of their work.
The "recall" posted above takes care of the bikes, regardless of whether the bike owner has extended warranty or not...it is a recall.
I will talk directly to the guy in their Service Dept that is the only one allowed to work on my bikes (generally I do everything on my bikes, except warranty or recall items), and I will ask him...how deep does he need to go to do this recall on the primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft. It "may" be very deep, as in remove the entire engine assy kind of thing, or....it "may" be quite accessible, as in remove a front cover, and the primary drive gear bolt on the crankshaft is right there.
I shall do my homework...NOW !
EDIT: having now completed my homework, I am certain that m,y local dealer IS going to request that I remove the sidecar from my '19 Wing.
Technically, this recall can be performed and completed by an experienced and willing mechanic that is willing to do the work needed/necessary on the LEFT side of the bike, whilst also reaching under the left side of the bike, but....knowing my local dealer, they are going to want to put this bike ON their bike lift, and do it whilst standing up, or accessing from under the left side of the bike. And while they also sell, and work on sidecar by sides, and 4 wheelers ATV's, I have to allow them to do it "their way", rather than push them doing it with the sidecar attached.
OR....being the 3rd greatest mechanic myself (# 1 and # 2 shall remain unnamed), I may just elect to do this myself, in my own shop, with the entire sidecar rig UP on my full car lift, alleviating the need to remove the sidecar from the bike.

Have to clear things up for the confused.
It seems you maybe a screw loose somewhere and seeing as we are not seeing pictures currently and we do like to go with the flow..... which machine in what country is the nutty one?
I suppose context would tell me.
Bolts for the door....

This was a service announcement only. There are a lot of Goldwing riders on this forum.
I put fellow rider safety over brand loyalty every minute of every day.
I reserve snark for the weekends.

I do believe.....I say, I do believe.... that all my snarky comments above were in fact posted on a weekend.

Well, dang it....I checked with my local Honda dealer yesterday, and confirmed that MY 2019 Goldwing w/DCT is in fact going to need to have this recall done, and worse....I am in fact going to have to remove the sidecar, and trailer my bike the 22 miles up to the dealership, because it would be difficult to ride with the modified front end.
Whilst I was there yesterday, they were elbow deep into doing a few of these recalls on bikes in the shop, as well as a customer just then picking up two of his bikes that just had the recall done.
It is a very DEEP job, requiring that half of the bike be disassembled, including removing the fuel tank that is under the seat, so they can access the rear of the transmission, that is at the rear of the engine. Frankly, I was surprised just how deep they have to go to get to this loose bolt.
But, it is what it is, and they have ordered the recall KIT for my bike, will call me in a week or so, schedule the work to be done (they need a FULL day to do it), and in the meantime I shall remove my Hannigan Dream sidecar from the bike (gulp)

Does the Hannigan installation include a subframe? My guess would be that it will need to come off too, but hopefully not. That would be the most worrisome part of the job for me.
You might consider asking the Service Manage to NOT perform a road test after the job is finished. Can't you just see some mechanic roaring off on your bike unaware of the modified trail and crashing it on the first turn?

Not liking but fully agree, Ned.

Would be no different than riding one of big wide rear tires with rake out front ends choppers. You just have to respect it and knows it going to handle different.

Ned and Thane, the Service Manager has already been made fully aware to not have the mechanic ride this bike before or after the recall is performed. They know it has been modified for sidecar use.
Once I get the sidecar removed, I will check whether components of the subframe need to be removed.

@2FLTC, when I took my '06 Wing down to Champion Sidecars in Anaheim, California to have the Daytona 2+ 2 sidecar installed , I had already installed the new trail reducing triple trees on it, in my own shop.
Then I had a decision to make, trailer this bike 1200 miles.....then trailer the completed sidecar rig back home 1200 miles.... OR......ride the bike with the modified front end 1200 miles, then drive the completed sidecar rig back home 1200 miles.
Lost a lot of sleep for a couple weeks, then decided that if I tout myself as the 3rd greatest motorcycle rider in the world, why hesitate to ride it, even with the modified front end?
So, I did just that....and had no problems for the first 1,195 miles. It was the final 5 miles that got me in trouble, but I straightened it out, and made it there almost alive.

Frankly, that last 5 miles inside deep LA makes me skittish even now remembering it from 27 years ago.

I like that the shop is already gaining experience with other folks bikes! 👍
Can they update the warp drive system while in there? Just because triple digit speeds are never enough. 😉
So now you'll get the rig back, and then go over every single nut and bolt that was touched... Sounds like a great week in a warm shop.

First....what warm shop ? Where is this warm shop of which you speak ? My shop has NO heat...at all.
Second, I have the utmost confidence in the mechanic that works on any of my bikes at this dealership. I am allowed to specifically request that he works on my bikes, and he knows that I request him. He is that good, and I trust him.
But...of course I will go over every nut and bolt...duh !
