One of the many things I like about motorcycles is....

Β

Even somebody riding the rattiest, outdated, POS loves their bike because it makes them feel cooler.Β

And they're right.

Did 450 miles today on an 02 DL1000 Vstrom with two guys - one on a 19 HD and the other on a 23 Triumph Tiger.Β  Their computers told them they had x miles to empty.Β  My gut and elapsed miles told me I had x miles to empty.Β  Of course, I do have monkey butt right now...Β  I really do like that bike.

Ha.....I say to monkey butt.

Yesterday I drove my newest sidecar rig 632 miles in 10 hours, and seriously sweated out the last 10 miles, because when I stopped for fuel....the receipt shows the bike took 6.695 gallons of fuel, and the fuel capacity on this bike is only 6.6 gallons.

No monkey butt was involved.

@miles-ladueΒ

I have a couple times put 5.7 in a 6 gallon tank. Normally I get 31 to 40 MPG. Load speed wind all play into that. In the end if I want fuel mileage as number one concern we would take the hybrid.

Β Β  On or last trip on the way home load down strong head wind either straight at us or from front left. 28 MPG. That was what changed my mind on adding the 4 gallon AUX tank to the Trike.

Been riding 53 years legal on the road. It is as much a part of me as getting up in the morning. I know the day will come. But I can not give not riding a moment of my time.

Before being married Riding was a big part of life. It has been a great part of 48 years of marriage. It will be for as long as we can.

Both on active duty wife almost 9 months wait on our first child. Broke. Car would not start and we were going to a drive in movie. Fired up the old bike and away we go.Β  It rained but we enjoy the movie. I had already known she was the one that just sealed the deal.

Sidecar rig,Trike ,two wheels,Moped big small fast slow alone in a group. I will ride anything.

HOME !

2,540 miles in 4 days. Of which 3 of those days were in the sweatbox, and the last day was in the icebox.

635 miles per day average, and about 10 hours per day average.

Glad to be home 🏡Β

Welcome back!Β  Now greet your loved ones and relax.Β  Remember, the second day after a big event you are usually more tired than the first day after.Β  AMHIK.

Very cool art work.Β

Another fun thing is motorcycles don't require expensive riding gear.Β  A stop at the local thrift shop can provide adequate apparel to match the bike.Β

Two wheels was always fun.Β

But the design was perfected when an engine was added.

Carnarvon to Nanutarra roadhouse is 366 klm.

Did itΒ  on my then new 650 VStrom.(07).

As I eased off the throttle to slow for the fuel stop the engine died.

I coasted the last half klm cackling like a fool.Β

Sure there is fuel at Manilya but no way was I going to stop just 135 klm away from Canarvon.

I latter learned you can squeeze quite a few k's out of an "empty" Strom tank.

Riding can be fun in cool weather and getting home to a cup of coffee seems even better.

Kinda ratty old bike, but still fun for a midnight ramble around Skunk Hollow when it cools down from 114F!.

An oddball bike but they got a surprisingly good review when new. Especially the drive train.

But of course it's about the riding not the ride.

Some times it is nice to take the old iron out for a ride.
