Don, I see that your Wing is the DCT model. Did you buy this bike new, or used ?

Did you order that "Ultimate " seat, or was it already on the bike ?

If you want info on future tire choices, let me know.

I bought it used just the way you see it. Didn’t know the seat was an aftermarket till I got home from Russellville Ar. just shy of 300 miles. Never bought a custom seat before.

Don, after you get the sidecar project done, and you have driven the completed rig for awhile, if you decide to change from that Ultimate seat to a RDL seat... Russell Day Long seat....let me know, as I can arrange a discount for you.

Don’t think I will change it out. I’ve ridden a few 300 mile days and rode to Kent’s place when he had his open house which was 600 that day. I very happy with this seat.

Have you seen your proctologist lately?

I’ve only had stock seats on every bike I have had except the Goldwing. The only stock seat that did get comfortable was my 1982 R65 after recovering with leather it was very firm. I’ve heard of riders going through a few custom seats before they got one that worked for them.

I agree with Jon, but let's give Don a chance to see if that Ultimate seat works for him. 

Bottom line (pun intended) is that every BODY sits a little different,  so if an Ultimate seat works for Don, then great, he got it for free (almost....he did have to buy a Goldwing to get that seat)

I've been building custom saddles now for about 35 years. Never have for profit but only for myself and close friends, material used and shape is the least of what makes a comfortable saddle. Its all about the proper density of foam used for the riders weight range.

I watched Bill Mayer, the original creator of the old Road Sofa and Day long saddles, (after he sold out to Russel/Travelcade) custom re-build one for me back in the early 90s. Mine was not a 100% full custom, but rather a full foam replacement under my stock cover. The foam used was varying densities of medical grade therapy foam. The same used by prosthetic limb builders, space shuttle seats, Nascar seats. The foam for the build is specifically layered and chosen based on the weight of the rider. Unique Shaping is just an added feature to avoid any pressure points. After watching him do that 1st one for me at a rally, I said, I can easily do this myself. Ive done so ever since.

Ive built about 2 dozen over the years, most just foam replacements under stock covers, but for my own bikes have built quite a few where I also stitch the entire new cover and custom shape. VERY time consuming project and the average cost for the foam is $2-300 JUST for the driver section. If you figure in custom cover, heated panels its very easy to see why true saddle builders get a few k for one.

BUT, anyone can make a supreme saddle (same as ALL the high end ones) with their stock seat just by replacing the foam with the proper densities for their specific weight range.

I buy all my foam from Sunmatecusions.com, the very same source that Bill Meyer used to use. IF I do a cover, I Mainly use marine grade vinyl or Sunbrella, but have progressed over into real leather hide. To build your own covers you must have a nice upholstery grade stepping foot machine, then just lots of time behind it. I'm self taught and still learning with each one I do, but after 35 years, you tend to learn a lot by trial and error. Never been displeased with any I have done, and all the friends ive done them for have never complained about 5-800 mile days.

So many out there just use generic foam for all weight ranges, but put a very fancy cover on it. If you decide to spend the few K for that custom build, deal only with those builders that go into great detail as to your size and weight before they ever start. If they don't, then walk away and deal with the builder that does.

If Don has found a saddle he is happy with, that is exactly what he should keep for this bike.

This has turned into an oil thread. But in all seriousness I am very happy with this seat. There have been family issues shortly after buying this bike so I have not put the miles on like I want to before TSC got the. I have put close to 5000 miles. Even with the few trips with the triple digits temps I wasn’t tired from seat. So this seat will stay. 

Don, glad to see you are taking the step to add a sidecar to the Wing. You will love it.

Correct, he was no longer building them under any name by the time he did mine. Incorrect on that statement of mine, rather only modifying them At Rally's along with his son Rick. Rick, who also did great work, continued for a while but seemed to have a problem with running a business and did not last long.

Apologies Don for getting off onto seat builds, if your happy stick with it.

Curious to see pics of the sidecar you will attach. I'm sure as nice a wing as you have, it will be a nice matched set.
