Morning all

So my breakdown has shown me holes in my current insurance coverage. So i decided to try (without getting instant phone calls from sales people !!!) and improve my coverage.

Is their such a thing as specialist motorcycle and sidecar insurance coverage?

Triple A seems to get the vote for tow/ breakdown?

Also looking at home/auto coverage, what works for you?

My current coverage is amfam for all my insurance.

New Alternator arrives Friday so with luck the rally is on, i intend to overnight stop on the way.

What is the best pups and people hotel motel stay generally?

Right fresh coffee coming up

Sidecar in considered an accessory. So you add accessory coverage to amount you feel is needed and what Insurance company agrees to.

Example you have a sidecar valued at 10K . They will add a cost to premium . But if you try to cover it say for 15K they will question it.

Many motorcycle insurers have a base amount they cover for add ons. Around $3,000. If you want more you pay more.

But that has been fading away due to increased cost.

We've used the Allstate RV club for the past 12 years.  Don't be dissuaded by the name.  You do not need to insure your vehicle with Allstate and any vehicle gets coverage, not just RVs.  Unlike most towing plans, there is not a limit to how far they will take your inoperable vehicle.  The will transport the vehicle to the nearest facility capable of making the needed repairs.  It is good in the US and Canada; I have not checked for other countries.  I've used it twice; once for a lockout and once to be extracted from a snow filled ditch.   Cost is around $150 per year.

I have Progressive through USAA.  I've not had the need to use coverage (thankfully), but the rate is good for an "agreed value" policy, and they are easy to work with on the phone.  They had no problems covering the rig's value for the purchase price.

Insurance includes the Roadside assistance with Trip Interruption Coverage defined as:

Roadside Assistance

With Roadside Assistance coverage, we pay for roadside service labor costs if your vehicle becomes disabled as a result of a mechanical/electrical breakdown, dead battery, flat tire, and/or lock-out.

We will also help if you run out of gas or other fluid or becomes stuck in snow or mud within 100 feet of a road or highway. And, if necessary, we'll cover towing to the nearest qualified repair facility.

Trip Interruption Coverage

Trip interruption coverage is provided for mechanical breakdowns and covered comprehensive and collision losses. The mechanical breakdown or covered loss must occur more than 100 miles from your primary residence.

The coverage provides daily maximums of $100 for lodging, $50 for alternative transportation, and $50 for food while the covered vehicle is being repaired, up to $500 per occurrence.

Note: These definitions are intended only as a guideline. All terms and coverages are defined solely by the policy. Coverage limits, deductibles and certain exclusions may apply.

Hth, 🍻

*eta:  Just noticed I had undervalued the price of replacing riding gear, and didn't have "carried contents" covered.  Was able to make the upgrade via the website real quick.  I'm glad you brought this up. 👍 ****

With AAA towing, you must upgrade to Plus or RV for them to even touch a motorcycle.  AMHIK.

I'm not saying it's good coverage for motorcycles, but I'm with Auto Owners for home and vehicles (2 cars, 1 bike, 1 sidecar, 2 trailers).  Wife had a wreck a year ago and transaction was seamless for the vehicle involved.  When we added the sidecar rig to the policy, the question asked was "what's the value?"  My reply - "I couldn't replace it for less than $10000."  OK said he.

For dog friendly motels, I've used Bring Fido [LINK] for many years.  If I have my laptop, I can search for and make reservations using their website.  If I'm on the road with just my phone, my eyesight is not good enough to "surf the web" on a tiny screen. But they have an app you can use, both Android and iPhone, that works.  And often I'll just call their 800 number to speak to one of their people directly.  Sometimes that's just easier.

I was on a 2-week trip in 2021 where I had planned out every day in advance and used Bring Fido to make my reservations.  Halfway through the trip I got sick and had to cancel a week's worth of hotels.  One call to Bring Fido and they took care of it.  Nice perk when you're sick.

Steve, The Uninsured  Head Explody

Over the  last few decades I have had  our motorcycles  and cars insured  by several  different companies,  happy  to stay with  one, until they  do something  wrong,  or piss me off. Currently  all our insurance is  with SafeCo.....a Liberty  Mutual  company.  On the 2 wheeled motorcycles, full coverage  that  includes  $ 3,000.00 accessories  coverage.  On all my sidecar rigs,  full coverage  and an additional  $ 20,000.00 accessories coverage.

For  roadside  emergencies,  we have  AAA Plus.

I'm fully sold on AirBNB for just about everything needed for travel.  You can do nightly stays or longer.  They have a selector for "pet friendly" on the search screen.  Prices are almost always better than motels, especially since most motels won't allow pets without a significant pet charge IF they allow them at all.

Okay, this is very cool. 👍   Decades of work travel, just put me in "get a motel mode".  Never even considered an AirBNB.  Will have to give it a try on the "Huge Summer Vacation" trip.

Thanks for the great idea.  🍻

And yet....I  will  never  stay in an AirBnB, because of the  horror  stories I have  read about  and heard about,  with the  owner charging for  extras like.....oh, you used the  microwave,  and....oh, you used the  washing machine,  and.....oh, you  used the  pool table.

Or, in my worst case scenario,  being woken in the middle of the  night  to find that a Shrek  was hiding  under the  stairs,  in the  Harry Potter  closet.

Thanks for all the info guys =)

I decided to go with Good Sam Roadside assistance rather than AAA. I do not think there is much between them and Their memorial day offer cuts he price in half for the first year. Next will be my overall insurance package, but that can wait for the moment
