Solution to a problem.
Have you ever been where you had to choose between your scooter, which they won't let into some stores and coffee shops,
or your wheelchair which you may have to wheel a mile or two just to get there? Well I have. So i built a device that says I can scooter to the coffee shop, 1 1/2 miles up the road, and have my wheelchair with me. Or I can put my accordion in the chair, ride the scooter to the park or where ever, then get in the chair and annoy tourists with the accordion.
First I fashioned a trailer hitch that fits the scooter in the same place the factory does one. A simple affair with an upright steel rod that has a small hole to accept a linchpin keeper. Then I cut two equal length pieces of 1/2 inch steel conduit. I used a hobby lathe to cut 1/2 inch fine thread nuts to fit into the ends of the tubes. I then brazed them there in place. That is so I can screw heim joints into the ends. Then I machined a pair of aluminum pieces that fit the heim joint and are held by linch pins. The big end of the aluminum slips into the socket on the chair where the leg supports normally pivot. The other ends of the tubes are set over the trailer hitch pin and linch pinned. Voila!
The wheelchair has become a trailer to carry the accordion or groceries, or your dog or what ever fits. The front caster wheels adapt to any turning movement of the scooter and the big wheels just follow along. It does not seem to add much noticable drag on the scooter.

Great idea Jim! It couldn't be any simpler plus the engineering behind the design is well thought out. Your entire concept is interesting to say the least. I like it! You would fit right in with our group that attend some of the different car shows in the South East. At a three day show a guy can walk up to ten miles so we came up with something a little different. Modified scooters! We took a scooter like yours and made a few modifications to it. The 392 Hemi is made out of fiberglass and plastic weighing around twenty pounds. It's always an attention getter at any of the shows. Like anything in life we were having to much fun and the powers that be decided that we needed an official state handicapped sticker on the scooter or we couldn't drive them around the show grounds. It was funny to see a group of old retired Vets offering to hand a young thirty something his head on a platter if we couldn't run our scooters around the show grounds. The little punk turned the cops on us and we were told if we drove the scooters they would escort us off the grounds; go figure. Needless to say I stopped going to the shows and moved on. But back to your design. I like it! Thanks for posting it.

Johnny
