As the webmaster I see all the activity on the server and I get all the messages and emails from people trying to log in and failing for different reasons. So here is some information that I hope will be useful for old-timers and new people trying to figure it out.
If you try to log in and can't remember your password you get 3 strikes then you get locked out. Lockouts are temporary - 15 or 20 minutes. This is to prevent hackers and spammers from hammering our website trying many passwords to get into various user accounts. Understand - this happens dozens and dozens of times per day! From IP addresses all over the world. It is the server trying to protect itself.
If you try even more and can't get in the server might then ban your IP address. If that happens and you email me I have to look up your IP address (or ask you for it) and go into the security module and remove the ban. Not a big deal if we can recognize the issue and get it resolved.
The problem is users don't understand the difference and get frustrated and impatient. Lockouts are temporary - bans are permanent but fixable.
Fixed! Another aspect of this is the password reset function isn't working right now. It is not sending emails out. I am researching and have submitted a support ticket request. What this means is if you can't recall your password just send me an email and I will reset it for you. Quick and easy!

Thanks Jerry. Also thanks for answering my email. Now with your explanation of how things work, I know to just hang loose for 15 minutes or so, and then log back in. Easy-Peasy. 🙂
