FWIW : If there's anyone else on here that stores pics on Smug Mug, choose the "Embed" address list and choose <Large> or <X Large> and copy to clipboard, then paste in the dialog box here. Above are the two sizes.
I wonder if a link to a Google Photo works. Testing it here (opens in a new tab). But it doesn't display inline.
Trying to embed a link - doesn't work.
It's because the Smugmug links to a specific file that is a jpg but the Google Photo is just a link to a cloud file and the forum software doesn't know what to do with that (other than open in a new browser tab). Not as convenient. So you can't use cloud-based photo apps like Google Photos or Apple iPhotos.
But you can use other services that link to a jpg like Photobucket.com or flickr.com.
Here it is in Flickr:
This is the link it embeds: "htps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53386832233_5d0eda8350_c_d.jpg"

Can you link to a Photobucket picture? I thought Photobucket had abolished HotLinks back in 2017? I have thousands of PB pics that I uploaded back before then. I'm still paying a $25 annual fee for an account there. So, OK, let's test it. Using the "Insert Image" button I'm inserting the "Direct Link" URL of a Photobucket image from 2013 --
Can you see it? This is Crab Creek Valley near Beverly, WA.
The top is using the link, bottom is just copy from SmugMug and paste to desktop. Then use browse and get the picture from the desktop. If you use the link it will go away if the picture is removed from SmugMug, the copy and paste leaves the picture in the U.S.C.A. servers.

A Yellow Sidecar rig, headed to Yellowknife. OMG! Can it get any better! 🙂
YELLOW FTW!!! roflol
Sorry, I couldn't resist. 😉
I keep pictures on my laptop and use a photo program to resize with max dimension of 800. That normally makes a small enough file that AOL Internet users can still get a somewhat quick download.
OK, another test. Photobucket lets me store videos. Let's see if I can get one to show up here. BTW, this is a VERY low rez vid from 2011 so zooming in or out will not make it any clearer!
That's using the "Insert Image" button. Doesn't work. All you get is the first frame of the vid.
