FM, I must not understand what you are experiencing. If there are three or more likes for a post, it only displays the names of the last three persons who clicked like and the rest of the names are pushed into "and X persons liked".

If there are three like clicks for a posting and you click like, one of those three will be pushed into the "X persons liked" folder and your name will appear. If you click unlike, your name will disappear and the original three names will now reappear as they were before.

Have not had any issues with that myself.

Clicked on Miles post the once.

It changed the thumbs up to the clicked sized .

And put the notification up saying I had liked it.

Which I don't really.

Clicked on Sheath's comment.

It changed the thumb but did not put up the text saying I had liked it.

Re clicked it so it reverted to non clicked status.

Then clicked the 3rd time.

It then change the thumb to  clicked status AND acknowledged that I was the the clickie.

Something is squirellÿ in the system  for sure.

Sometimes it flat refuses to acknowledge my clicking at all.

Does not worry me any.

I am concerned for Miles though.

FM is absolutely obsessed with this but I don't know what I can do. There is no app or code I can install, I have researched the issue in the forum vendor support forums, and we have done some troubleshooting in the past (try different computers, clearing cookies, etc.). I mentioned to him that it might be possible that it is just not displaying on his screen but his 'likes' are registering and displaying to others. I see his 'likes' on multiple posts in other threads.

Here is something you all can try: When you click the like button, if it doesn't immediately display, refresh your screen. That is, press F5 function key (laptop), or click the little refresh icon by your URL bar at the top of your browser, or figure out yourself how to refresh. In other words, it may be that some people's computers (Windows or Apple) handle the screen updating code (java?) differently. If your click doesn't respond the way you think it should - refresh your screen and see if it then displays correctly.

Report back so we can all learn.

Jerry I have a sense that because “likes”, posts and new threads all contribute to the user’s “ranking”, that he is somewhat concerned that the system accurately tally such things.  Otherwise it’s like a game of “Whose Line Is It Anyway where everything is made up and the points don’t matter”.

Since most users do seem to experience this event, but don’t notice it, do we really need it?  Can it be turned off to minimize the distraction?  I fear that because you can’t remedy it, it is a deep artifact in the system that the developers thought was cute but orphaned due to lack of interest on their part.

Well what do you know.  I was just able to duplicate the "vanishing likes" issue.

By clicking on the like icon for the above three posts, the screen no longer shows the likes from those who liked the post before me.   Refreshing the screen (function F5, and using the refresh icon on the URL bar) did not change the view.

If I like someone's post, it is as easy as commenting on it.  So if the resolution is to remove the function, no worries on my part.  The only points I'm looking to score are with the cutie next door.  😉

@Thane - good observation and idea to remove the feature. It is kinda fun but TBH I think most people overuse it (there are likes on just about every post!). I will go research some more and inquire in the support forums before I make any drastic changes.

is it ironic that I liked your comment?

Giving this some thought, a common troubleshooting methodology is to remove any customizations to eliminate any variables that might be influencing the behavior of the stock application. Last September, 2024, I implemented some custom code from the developers to remove the 'thumbs down' button (at FM's request). So, just to ensure that is not causing a display issue, I will remove that code and you should notice the 'thumbs down' button will appear. Let's let that sit for a few days and see how it might affect the behavior of the 'thumbs up' button. It's a first step...

It appears the change is not immediately showing. I suspect we will have to refresh our browsers or possibly log out and log back in.

(5 min later) Hmmm. I am in a different browser with clean cookies and I still don't see the change (thumbs up button). Trying some other things...

Oh I see now!! It is not a separate button - you have to hover over the button and you will then see the two buttons.

Very sorry Miles. I will work to remove the buttons. Apparently, it is not a simple option so I will have to request some code from the developers. This being Friday and they are in the EU they may not respond until Monday.

Again, I apologize to everyone for the confusion over this.
