I helped a guy with a 54 get the original updraft carb working.  Had never seen an original Hard tail before. His was stripped down in a bobber style.  I was surprised how small the overall bike was.  It was sooo cool! 🤩 (this coming from a dirt bike guy.. lol)  Would make for a very fun project.

While I am still whittling these parts down, here is why this brace is built this way. Axle access, the wheel needs to be off to make alignment or lead adjustments of the axle block. It's built so I can loosen or tighten the axle nut easily, or even remove the axle completely if need be, without any disassembly.

Nice forward thinking!

I've got the same style ratchet in 3/8" drive (Marked as Craftsman IIRC).  Super handy tool.   😎

Moment of truth time. Slid everything back to the rear most lead position on the chassis to find out how much more clearance I needed to make. Zero, all of it clears, even with the huge 5/8" lock nut on the inside. Doggone, that math stuff DOES work sometimes.

Chris Hardtail Murphy @not-bob, I need you to take it all apart now, and reassemble it having installed WASHERS under every nut and bolt.

Thank you for your attention on this matter.

These are all mock up fasteners, including the distorted thread flange nuts I ran a tap through to kill the locking feature. I am far from final assembly here.  However there still won't be washers on most these fasteners on final assembly.

Took a while to catch up.. Was back on page 5 an hour ago 🙂  Awesome effort and fab skills..  I love how you are just going at it your way and ignoring the chatter when necessary ..  Washers are over rated in my opinion 🤣

Thank you. I hadn't realized this was at 12 pages now. When I was building the latest version of the bike, I was on Instagram, and updated the progress constantly, that habit seems to have stuck. basic_smile

It is fun to follow along.  Getting someone else's thought process and ideas helps to improve my fabrication skills.  😎

Love to follow along with the progress of any build. My fab skills improve with the more builds I follow or watch take place

A couple things here. This is in 22', the bike wasn't finished, but it was time to put a surrogate battery on it to do a function check, and also start curing the VHT on the pipe. It's out of tune because I went back to baseline jetting and timing, (also forgot to open the compression releases) but you can see it's not much of a shaker or vibrator. It's always been an oddly smooth running bike for what it is, I think the square 4x4 engine, and a lot of time spent on drivetrain alignment caused that.

The other thing is the right arm and also the hand, they really did build a pretty functional item for me considering what they had to work with. I was still in the trauma ICU when a PT made a foam cylinder to keep in my hand to help control the deforming of it due to the ulnar nerve transection. I kept that in my hand most of the day, and a ball of rolled up socks in it every night for a long time while my hand was depleting. That worked well, I ended up with minimal clawing, which made the hand far more useful than what it might have been. Letting me do the things being shown in this thread.

PT's with experience are awesome. My wrist is still very functional, 25 years later, thanks to all the hard work and teachings of a great PT.  The doctors figured three years max before it would have to be fused.

Your engine doesn't seem to have the prototypical "potato, potato, potato" exhaust cadence. It has a very healthy throatiness.  The first video you put up on the test ride seemed pretty impressive. 😎

I had about 10-15 different PTs and OTs during a 4 year period, some good, some bad, but the 5 great ones helped the most.

Getting that shovel sound from an EVO usually requires a pretty low idle speed. I'm in the camp that thinks that is hard on the rod bearings, and this engine has rather large pistons too. I know a lot of folks do that, and that's fine with me, I don't tune this engine that way though.

It's way out of tune in this video, it ran straight shotgun pipes for years, now it has a 2-1 pipe I built and a muffler. Once it hit the road it got some jetting and timing adjustments.
