Hello Sidecar folks.

I am new here and have just "accidentally purchased" just the fiberglass tub and wheel fender for a Velorex 560. I originally thought it was for a carnival ride after speaking with my local BMW guy who appraised it as such. But after careful internet sleuthing- indeed it is a 560. Original red underneath and peeling black paint on the top- USA import color. No cracks, or breaks...all original fiberglassness. Pictures to follow once I post 3 times I guess.

Alas, I only have the fiberglass parts and not the frame, wheel or suspension. I am a metal sculptor by trade and have all of the necessary machinery (implements of destruction) to manufacture removed link my own frame for the rig. However, I lack knowledge about sidecars. Like....any what so ever! My motorcycle experience is on my Honda Elite 250 scooter- I have an M license but like scooters most of all.

Recently my 11 year old has expressed interest in rebuilding a parts Honda Scooter of ours (CH250) and we are getting ready for a summer project. I was interested in mounting this Velorex sidecar to the honda since it is lightweight and I can custom build any subframe I like to fit it to the scoot. I will not be modifying the fiberglass in any way...building off the original mount holes and design. Chopping this would in my opinion be a great travesty to its original fluid design.

The scooter is neat, as it will run with just a bare frame and no fenders or plastic covers on the body. They are all removeable. I have one of these I have already re-bodied (CH150)and use as a kinetic art bike/project of sorts. Link on Vimeo. The Velorex shell is very 1960's and fluid while the 1980's scoot is very square- the two dont really match. I was thinking of rebody-ing the scoot to match the sidecar.

Really hoping for some technical input, possible some measured drawings or plans for the oem 560 frame that I can get my mind around for this construction. Thanks. Dino

Dino @dinofarm, I think this is an excellent project for you and your Daughters.  The Honda CH250 has the power to pull the Velorex 560 as a sidecar rig.

Go forward with this, and involve your Daughters as much as possible.

@dinofarm where are you located?  If you are in the KC Metro, I have a great resource for you to contact.  Heck, even if you are somewhere else, we can certainly put together a crac’ team of oddball characters to give advice of all sorts to help (?) with this great project!

Thanks for the replies gents. I live in NY state. We are more rural so we can test out scooter projects without too much traffic.

I am a stay at home dad. I gave up teaching other people's college age "children" (uggh.)  8 years ago and besides the lack of the extra paycheck have enjoyed the whole experience with gusto. A wiser older dad once told me "Children dont want things, they want your time." I have followed this mantra to the best of my abilities.

So, therefore, my daughter and I are choosing this fun mechanical project. I have twin girls, one expressed interest in scooters, her twin has other artistic projects in the works. They are both hands on kind of girls I am glad to support all of their interests if I can.

Id be very glad to chat with others about sidecar dynamics and this particular one's attachment to a scooter frame

Cheers, Dino

Sounds awesome.

Not long sold a CH250. The Australian version with disk front.

Went to a teacher...

I have too many wheels cluttering up my life and it was the 1st to go.

I was eying various wheels and have a couple of simple suspension units from a watsonian sidecar.

They take a 10" mini wheel.

If the Honda had stayed around long enough it may well have had a side attachment eventually.

Not much use to you because of my location but this idea may help.

Rubber block trailer suspension units are a simple viable option as well.

Pics for a guy who can make his own.

You may have to look for a bit to see how it works.
