No picture of the seat...mmmmm.....I say Miles old chap are you trying to hide the fact that your butt is getting bigger with age?

Steve, you are in good company with Scott, for all the whining and begging you two did, to plead for pictures of the newest...the latest...the greatest Russell Day Long seat made for me, now on my Honda Africa Twin DCT that is being built into an Alaska Grizzly sidecar rig.

For YOUR viewing pleasure, I present:

BTW, I had to whine, beg, and plead to have Charles, The Younger, go to his storage unit and take these pictures, as the Wizard of Hackery had already stashed my bike into his den of iniquity.

'tis hard to see, but the material used on this seat is the Carbon Fiber looking vinyl, so it looks really cool in person.

Along with a very custom rear shock.Β  Starry Eyes Β

Looks to me like the gentleman who originally built this bike new what he was doing.Β

Sir Miles of Beardom.Β  This is the Ultimate Adventure Rig build, and we are left to hang in the wind on the details.Β  For shame young man... For shame. Displeased Β

2,000 words, single spaced covering every aspect of the bike is a minimum requirement! Cool Β

Scott, you are correct that it has a custom rear shock....actually a Racetech HO spring on the rear shock. The front forks have upgraded suspension too, but they will be removed when the new Leading Link front end is built, using 2win shocks on the Leading Link,Β  and on the sidecar swingarm.Β  I will also cover all those 2win shocks with shock booties,Β  to keep them clean.

You are also correct that the previous owner really built this bike up, top flight equipment everywhere,Β  even a Garmin Zumo XT GPS.Β

He and his wife had two of these Africa Twin DCT bikes, and shipped them to Chile, then rode more than 35k miles all around South America,Β  until her bike got butchered by fools imitating mechanics, but when they used banana peels and coconut shells to repair a Honda Africa Twin.....the engine was ruined, so they scrapped her bike down there, and shipped his bike back toΒ  Washington,Β  then traded it in at my local dealership,Β  where it sat for a year.....with me staring at it, conjuring up ideas of what to do with it.

It came with so many extras and goodies,Β  that IΒ  shipped the Bumot soft panniers down to Skunk Hollow,Β  AZ. to mi Amigo that owns the "original " Africa Twin DCT sidecar rig....Black Betty, that Sweet Gal.

Ummm, Scott. Β I don’t mean to be rude, but my right eye is still recovering from the events of this summer and reading even brief posts is a challenge at times. Β Why did you have to post that kind of a challenge? Β Because he WILL take it that way… Head Explody Β

Someone had to do it! Shut Mouth Β

I'm a bit disappointed that Miles (@miles-ladue) shipped the luggage to Skunk Hollow though.Β  After watching the below video last night, I've started yoga lessons, and figured he could pack me into one of the cases, and do carry on to Scotland.Β  Cool Β

Oh, Great Scot.....I still have the Hard panniers this bike came with Bumot panniers no less. But the bike also came with the Bumot soft panniers, which actually have a hard backside for mounting to the bike, but the soft parts are VERY heavy duty cordura, and are not cheap panniers at all, so I had to....had to I say....reach out to my fellow Africa Twin sidecar friend, and he will make good use of them.

Now, if you really want space to store YOU on this rig, the Pelican BX255 cargo box requires no Yoga experience to get into, and still have room for snacks, and a plastic bottle to pee into.

Frankly, Man from Roosevelt, Utah, I am surprised that you could SEE the rear shock on the bike, yet....completely ignore the installation of the product from your family ancestry.....the ScottOiler.

I mean, there are even stickers on the bike to claim that it now has a ScottOiler on the bike.

For heaven's sakeΒ

Scared

OR......did YOU mistake the ScottOiler reservoir for an external oil reservoir for the rear shock....pray tell ?

Perfect!Β  I'm there! 🤩Β  I'll bring an LED flashlight and the last few copies of The Sidecarist to stay busy.Β Β

While we are off to Scotland, and Sir Charles the Young gets going on the build, has there been an agreement as to posting ongoing pictures, and information?Β Β

I probably haven't mentioned this before, but in my very subjective and opinionated thoughts an Africa Twin is the ultimate Adventure rig build.Β  So there is high interest from me on following along.Β  😎Β

No need for the additional LED flashlight, as the Pelican BX255 cargo box will have an LED light inside of it, when I am done installing all the lights and wiring myself.

And, if your plan is to hide, or sneek, let's call it snicking...inside the Pelican BX255 cargo box, in hopes of getting a free trip to Scotland, there are two problems with your plan.

The Pelican BX255 cargo box will be staying in Oregon, whilst Charles, The Younger, does this build, as he needs it to make all measurements for building the rack to hold the cargo box, which means it will never be shipped to Scotland.

Secondly, the flat at the 18th century Benedictine Abbey in Fort Augustus, Scotland, overlooking Loch Ness, has been SOLD, as of June 3rd, and we shall nevermore be going to the land of your family heritage, aka...Scott Land.

Charles should never be referred to as Charles the Young, as the man is 71 years old. He is...Charles, The Younger, simply because he is 4 months younger than I.

As for pictures, as the build progresses, more likely than not the builder will send pictures to me, and I shall post them here, although he is free to post pictures here himself, if he chooses to.

BTW, I have already said that this AT/DCT-Cargo sidecar rig is going to be up for sale in the Fall of 2028, after I have used it for 3 trips up to and back from Alaska in '26, '27, and '28......and the builder, Charles, The Younger has first dibs on buying this, since he knows how well he will be building this, so....if YOU, Great Scot want to be second in line, you can be......if that is your mission in life.

Razz

Hmmmm, your idea is to stuff me in a plastic box kept at a storage facility in a remote part of Oregon over this winter.Β  Allowing plenty of time to reflect on the possibility of future ownership of a well built rig.

That makes good sense.Β  When marketing can capture an audience there is a positive benefit to sales.Β  😉
