Don't worry about being critical. I want this thing to work when I get done:o)I'd rather find out now than after It's painted.
Thanks, Wes
Well I started on the pieces for my subframe. I've never had so much trouble operating a hole saw in my entire life. LOL Broke 2 of them on this one little piece. This is the piece that attaches were center stand used to be. I couldn't get the tube to align up with the bottom bar, so I mitered a piece of tube to connect the two. I'll make a plug to close up the hole in the pipe sticking out.
More later, WesP
Your doing a very nice job Wes and it's obvious you been around iron before so I hesitate to mention this but what the heck, when you cut the miters in the pipe and broke the hole saw did you have the pilot drill in a piece of the pipe you were cutting off? if not that would have helped to stabilize the hole saw and maybe saved you the hassle of breaking them, one other thing I would like to suggest is reather than makeing a cover for the hole that you use a plastic cap and use the pipe as a route for the sidecar wires, they would be unseen and protected and with the plastic cap the hole for the wires woulden't chafe the wires.
Thanks for the compliment. It was just a cheep hole saw. I was trying to save money, and it ended up back firing on me. I know better than to try to save on cutting tools. I have a brand name one now. I should get the rest done, without any trouble. I have welding class tonight, So there probably won't be an update tonight:o(
I have thought about running the wires through a tube. But it will have to be a bit bigger to hold everything. I'll come up with something that is neat. There will be a fuel line and battery cables to deal with also:o)

Wes,
The welding class is another smart idea. Even if you are a "was, was" welder it will bring you up to today's speed and save you some rework time on your chassis and mounts.

If that tube is 1 1/4" x .120 you can stick a piece of 3/4" od solid stock or a 3/4" bolt in it and weld it up/ A little grinding and it is nice and flat....or leave it stick out and grind it to a point for a midevil look.
They also sell little chrome and rubber end caps at the hardware stores that look cool.
Or put a sight window in it and paint half of it black on the inside of the glass. Then you can make like you are checking your subframe oil.
Keep the pics coming :-).
I have some more bits made. The long tubes that go front to back were faced to length on the lathe. And I have a couple pieces made for the passenger backrest and sissy bar for the bike. I'll get some pictures:o)
Wes
Yesterday didn't go as well as I had hoped:o( On the centerstand mount there are 2 little lugs that the springs hook onto. These had to be removed to clear the bolt heads. It took most of the day. But they are off. Today I hope to get some welding done.
Wes
Well I have all the pieces welded together. After It cools off, I'll clean it all up and re-mount it to the bike. I'll be able to figure out the rear mount at that time.
I used my arc welder to weld this up with. I used 7018 stick. I am pretty happy with the results. I'll have to make a short wrench to get to the bottom bolts, but, I had planned on that.

Wes, I Thank You and I'm sure others Thank You for the blow by blow on this build, I'm finding it very informative and I'm impressed with the workmanship, there's a LOT more work involved than is indicated in your posts.
Thanks again for your compliments. There is a lot of work. I was hoping to have the main frame welded up and maybe the wheel mounted this weekend. But it didn't happen. I have some of the pieces ready to go, but there are a couple more to build. I have to miter a few more tubes. There will be a couple that will be a PITA because I can't use my mill. I'll have to use a hand grinder. I'm shooting to have it up on it's wheel by next weekend:o)
WesP
Wes,
I didn't realise till I looked at your profile that you live in Burley. I live in Bellevue. Perhaps we could get together this spring and compare notes. I'm impressed with your fabrication skills. Keep up the good work.
Mark
I was planning on it Mark:o)Thanks for the compliments. I've been busy the last couple days, And I have Welding class tomorrow. I'll try and get an update on Thursday. I have lots to do still, but I want to get it up on its wheel.
Wes
Forgot that Spring break was this week:o) After work, I drilled the body mount and made the spacers that will go between the body and the mount.
I set up my welder and bolted the spacers to the mount and welded them. I used my arc welder with 7018 rod.
Here is what I have for a sub frame so far. I have to figure out the back part still. It will probably bolt to the subframe and the bike.
Here is a close up of the welds. (please be kind:o)
I can start on the suspension parts now. I need to finish them before I can make any more of the frame.
Thanks for looking:o)
