Is there anyone that may know a shop that may have one of the Austone Taxi Tire 175R16 available? I've ordered one through Universal, but they are on back order and will be 4-weeks before they get any. I'm not sure if my current tire will carry me that long. Just taking a shot in the dark.
Is it too exspensive to ship one from the UK? There's plenty on eBay over here.

What an odd tire. Why not buy a modern tire? What are you gonna put it on?
Have owned 5 rigs but Rig #2 is my current one!
putting it on a 95 Goldwing w/Hannigan Astro 2x2 sidecar. Tire is 6-ply and have been told can get 30k miles out of it.
The Austone has a rounded profile. Because of that lots of folks like it for the back of a solo bike. I considered it but when it's time I'll get a flat profile for the rig.
I have a Federal Formosa 195/55/16 on the rear of my GL1500 , 1995 with a Hannigan Astro 2+2. I bought another one to use when this one wears out . Got it from Easy Tires $65.00 delivered to my front door. ImthI think I have about 9400 miles on it with plenty of tread left.

How in the heck did you manage to get a 195 to fit in a gl1500.? A number of years ago I had a 1993 Aspy. and I couldn't get a Austone taxi tire to fit without rubbing on everything under there. I took it off and sold it. What did you have to modify ?
PS..... That 195 you are using looks to be a lot smaller diameter then the M/C tire. How much did it raise the RPM ? which I already think is to high .
Hello Bone, NO modifications at all. I installed tire on rim and inflated it, then deflated the tire......sprayed some windex on the rubber and slid it in. I had the bike jacked up some and used a piece of cardboard and some 2x4s and pieces of plywood to get the tire up a little and wiggled it in. The cardboard on the cement floor makes it easy to maneuver into place. Does NOT rub on anything. I went to Wisoconsin and back with myi wife and out to the Arkansas Rally and back with her and no problems. It really fits in there pretty easy, and plenty of room left. The tire is smaller by about 1 1/2 inches. Revs are up but not that much and the quicker Acceleration due to the smaller diameter is pretty neat.
If you have any questions just PM me about the tire. As stated above, I have another new one in the garage and a spare wheel so I'll mount that and have it ready to swap out with the next tire change. I does lower the bike so be aware of that. I have to watch those neighborhood speed s.

Hi Bentley, thanks for the response. The tire on the back of the 1500 now has only about 4,000 miles on it. A dunlop E4 put on just before I bought the bike.
I also have a gl1800 two wheeler and a while back I bought an extra rim and a car tire. A 195x something.... I'll go look tomorrow and see what it is. I had it on the 1800 for a short time and took it off. The worst mod I have ever done to good handling bike. I even tried two different car tires. Nope, not for me. So when I go see what it is I'll report back here and maybe you can tell me if it will fit.

Hi Bentley. The tire I have mounted on the gl1800 rim is a Yokahama, Avid Envigor, 195x55x16..... 87V. It's only got 1,000 miles on it.
I sat it next to a rear tire for a gl1800 and it looks like it's very close to the same size. So by what you say this should fit my 1994 gl1500 se. ??

Yes it has basically the same dimensions as the federal. I was looking at that tire at the same tire. I went with the Federal because I read the article on mounting it to a Goldwing .. Let me know how it goes and how you like that tire.
Federal Formosa 195/55/16 will be lower then OEM tire. (not sure if 195 mm tire will fit in swing arm) You will lose some road clearance. Austone Taxi 175R16 tire little taller. Make sure you readjust your rig after you install new tire. Otherwise your new tire will be eaten fast.

Hi Bentley. Thanks for getting back to me. What article did you read about mounting the Yokahama on a Goldwing and which wing? I have this one mounted on a gl1800 rim and I at one time had it on the bike. It takes a bit of wiggle to get it in there and once in there is very little room for it. So I don't know how it will fit on the gl1500.
Like i said earlier I could not get a Austone taxi tire to fit the older gl1500 1993 that I used to have.
As far as a car tire goes on a two wheeler, I hated it as well as the Hankook I used the first time. The Hankook was completely bald in 11,000 miles straight across the tread from one side to the other. I get dang near twice that out of a M/C tire.
The E4 that's on the rig now only has 4,000 miles on it so it will be later this summer before I go to a car tire on the rig. I am leaving for Death Valley in my 4x4 and my dirt bike for at least a month on April 2nd. Then this summer when school is out in the middle of June Me and my beautiful sensitive life partner will hop on the rig and head to the southwest for two months. When I get back I will be looking to mount a car tire on the rig.
At that time I will report back here and let ya know how it goes.

Austone taxi tire will fit. Clearance will be about 1/2 - 3/4" on each side of swing arm. You will have to remove only small shield on front part of rear fender( if you don't it will be taken off by tire itself)
