We can ride all year and not see another rig.
On our way to the USCA National in Maine last year, we thought we would see sidecars on the way. At least a few when we got to Maine. We never saw another until we pulled into the Topsham Fairgrounds. We didn't see another on the trip home, and we were gone for three weeks or so.
On our way to the USCA National in Arkansas, we didn't see any other rigs until we stopped in Mena to do laundry and saw two drive past. We turned this into another three week jaunt.
We saw another rig near Indiana Dunes State/National Park on June 14!
We waved, he waved, but we were going in opposite directions and didn't stop. It looked like an older BMW with a Steib sidecar. But I could be very wrong.
This means we saw one more rig that usual. Yippee! They are out there! But it gets better. Two more sighted on our latest adventure.
July 17, somewhere past York, PA. Saw a rig that looked like a Ural. Had a guy driving, a woman on the bike, and a guy in the sidecar with a big dog behind him. Not kidding.
July 23, on Route 43 in Bucks County, Mechanicsville area? We were in the motorhome with rig on the trailer, stopped and arguing with the GPS.
Is this anyone on the forum? Have you seen any other rigs in the wild?
When we were traveling around Western Europe last Fall, we kept our eyes on the search for any Sidecar rigs, and....in late November there was a mini stream of them....all spaced almost exactly 2 minutes apart, coming from Western France going Southbound.
Maybe only 6 Sidecar rigs in total....the odd thing was the spacing interval.

The owners are involved in the Perth facebook sidecar group that I know.
I sadly was facing away from them and only saw them momentarily..
Would have waved them down.
Will catch up with them at some stage.
As I am curious about the ownership experience of a modern water cooled Chinese sidecar.
They were doing the foreshore run at Shoalwater, Western Australia.

I’ve been on the road full-time since mid May and I see a sidecar rig about once a week. I always give an excited Forrest Gump wave when I do. Most of them have been Harleys, a couple BMWs, one Ural, and the other day I even saw another Africa Twin with a tub bolted on. I think that was in Montana or Idaho?

Saw our third one today on this trip. Near Prince Gallitzin State Park in PA.
We were in the motorhome towing our rig, so I'm sure the rig driver had no idea why I was waving like a maniac, until he drove past. Or maybe not.
Earlier this month heading down the main road near my place while I was heading to my seat builder. I spotted a pretty blue BMW 9T W/dneper tub that I've never seen in the hood before. I waved but something told me turn around let's meet this guy find out who he is. A traveler in need had stopped at cyclegear for a tire they couldn't do the tire swap of a BMW rim. Spent the next couple hours getting him fixed up and back on the road. He had the abilities but it was wild to have company. Lives in Rosta Rica bike stored in Texas, said he'd be back next year for Hotchkiss.

@mj I started driving sidecars in 1991 when I discovered my youngest son, then 10 yo, kept falling asleep on the back of my bike. Aside from times traveling to a specific sidecar event I think I have spotted less than ten sidecars in the wild. Slightly better odds than spotting a Bigfoot.
I was waiting at the third of three traffic lights in my small town today, heading to work for the final day of pre-service duty. Parked at the Historic Arrow Hotel was a HD Electra Glide with HD sidecar. I didn't have any brochures or my business cards in my vehicle (doh!). Would have been a good chance to set one of those on the rig for when the traveler came down.

@thane-lewis We grabbed a bunch of the USCA cards and old issues. We keep the cards in the rigs and have handed out a few. Went to the Four Winds BMW rally in PA Saturday. Left one on the only rig there, but no one was around. We came back and talked with the owner about steering and other fun stuff. John's is the blue one. 🙂
