September 2026 Transamerica Trail....or Continental Divide

As suggested by our former El Presidente', the current record holder for the Eldest rider to successfully complete the Iron butt Association Ultimate Coast to Coast ride, the one and only Jan Daub, it would be great to have a "gravel included" Sidecar ride that we can plan on and coordinate for possibly September 2026, as the weather is slightly cooler than in July or August, we have the USCA National Sidecar Rally in June, therefore September seems the logical choice.
Something along the lines of the Continental Divide ride from Canada to Mexico borders.....or the Transamerica Trail from East coast to West Coast.
On either of these rides, those that can not do the entire ride, from start to finish, could join in with the group at many different points of entry, or could leave the group at many different points of exit.
Personally, I am inclined to like the Transamerica Trail ride, East Coast to West Coast, as it's all within the USA, whereas the Continental Divide ride could mean entry to Canada and Mexico......or if not....then starting and ending on the US side of the borders, without crossing the borders.
My suggestion: Minimum of two Sidecar rigs at any point along either of these suggested rides, and a maximum of 8 Sidecar rigs at any point along the routes of either of these suggested rides.
Ideally....4 Sidecar rigs travelling in harmony.
Combination of camping and motel stays.
Personally, a rig used for this needs to be capable on gravel, have enough ground clearance, and be reliable.
A Ural GearUp or a cT would be good, as speed is not needed.
But something like any of my Goldwing rigs, built for paved roads, would be bad for this trip.
I will be using my newest Sidecar build, a Africa Twin DCT cargo box Sidecar rig, built specifically for clawing its way through the roughest roads of Alaska, so it will be perfect for this trip .
The question is.....who else is interested in going on a ride like this?
Who else can take the time to do a ride like this?
Who else has a rig that can do this ride, or can get a rig built in time for a ride like this?
I know some of the Sidecarist that already have rigs that CAN do this ride, and there are many more that have rigs built for this that I haven't met....yet.
Let's hear from the rest of you 😜

September is a great month to be in the Rockies, and October to be in the Pacific North (not-so) Wet.
Also the start of Upland Game Hunting season for Miss Miles & I. Two years work at a local pheasant club should get her set for a lifetime of hunting in the mountains. So that is our priority.

Poet Scott. Could you please clarify what you are trying to say ?
Are you for participating in this ride....or not.
And if not, will you lease your SYZ rig to someone that can do the ride. ?

Hi Miles. I won't be able to participate in the ride. SYZ would be available.

Then, I shall bring a life-sized carboard image of you, that we can take along for the entire route, that can be propped up during campfire chats (albeit a distance away from the campfire, so it doesn't get burned).

Am not familiar with a SYZ, any photos?

Jan, this is what happens when you turn 80 years young, you forget all the really kewl sidecar rigs you have seen in your lifetime.
The SYZ is the Screaming Yellow Zonker sidecar rig, owned by Scott Heath, that lives in Roosevelt, Utah, and it is YELLOW.
Here is the link to his 19 pages of thread about this 1995 R1100GS w/Dnepr sidecar.

In my opinion, one of the very best assembled sidecar rigs out there.

For a 30 year old rig that has seen a lot, it does well. There are certainly better and newer rigs out there. It has taken me on some epic road trips ('24 USCA Rally in Iuka, MS being one of the great ones). My favorite place is exploring off road, and it leans more towards that side of life now. 😎

I like your rig, because it is built based on Common Sense and Logic.

If only the current owner had some of either. 😉
Caught a short video of a couple motorcycle journalists running part of the Continental Divide Trail, and have watched videos on the Trans America Trail. Both should be great rides. Will be fun to follow along on this exploit. 😎
Also very much going to enjoy the build thread on your new Africa Twin. In my very biased and subjective opinion that makes the best Adventure rig ever. There is a Gentleman up in your area with a red '17 Africa Twin based Rig, and Dane with his '22 rig. Both of which are drool worthy. So you'll be adding yet another reason for me to wear a bib in front of the laptop. 👍

Now that is a rig one could go anywhere on... great adventures.
With the photos, yes, I have seen and admired that rig for the years.
