Evening all

I am having thoughts about fitting Helibars on my 2015 Wing. Do you have them fitted and what are your comments on fitting and use?

Haven’t tried them myself, but I’ve heard they really improve comfort on long rides. Would be good to hear more real feedback on them.

Taylor

I have tried the cheap way of adjusting the stock handlebars by using risers that lift and tilt the handlebars back a bit. The problem is that there is not enough play in the throttle cables once the risers are fitted. Many people seem to struggle with the riding position on Goldwings. Some models will accept risers but not mine

OK Steve can we have a pic of the existing bar set-up please.

Some of us are not very wing literate.

Then put you hands where you reckon they should be.....

Simple minds and all..... would like to see...

Hot off the press. I need to sit more upright so my hands need to be up higher and back.

Steve you are correct about the cables being an issue when raising the bars. I have the simple blocks on mine that just raise the bars a little and move them back a hair. I feel it is a tiny bit better than stock BUT not enough to be totally comfortable, I have not seen them in person but have seen the helibars installed on 1800s in pictures and it looks like they fit and worked well, I didn't see a negative thing said by the people that had them installed

I have considered them myself but to be honest I just put the long miles on like I used to. I ride almost daily but under 60 miles per day

What about adjusting your riding position with a different seat? Would that accommodate you?

@sidecarusa Not in this case, health challenges get in the way.

Helibars arrive Tuesday so looking forward to fitting them. Looks to be pretty straightforward with the only pain in the butt being removing the heated grips. i have a clear week so no rush. I have already removed the original bars once before so not expecting any surprises.

Steve, the Heated Grips might be easier than you think.

The throttle side will simply slide off the handlebar. Use a good pair of needlenose pliers to gently remove the throttle cables (there are the pull and return cables, so two of them), so carefully LOOK at how those cables are seated into the black plastic throttle spool...release them from the spool, and the throttle hand grip will slide off the handlebar.

On the Left side, the clutch side, you can TRY pulling that grip off the handlebar, see if it will slowly slide off, once the bar end weight has been removed. If it does not (which it probably won't), then see about spraying (with the red spray straw) some "brakekleen" between the metal handlebar and the underside of the heated handgrip, to loosen up any "glue" that may be holding that left grip in place.

In a worse case scenario, use a LONG, but very thin flat blade screwdriver to shimmy between the metal handlebar and the underside of the handgrip, to again separate the glue of the handgrip from the handlebar.

If need be, call me.

Oh, and Steve, next time before you spray WD-40 into the handlebar switch cluster on the right side of the handlebar, lay a cloth on the lower fairing area, so that when the excess WD-40 drips down onto the lower fairing, you don't leave telltail signs of this mess shown in this picture:

Thanks for the info Miles. It seems from looking at a couple of videos that you do not need to disconnect the throttle cables if you unbolt the handlebar first and then slide off the complete assembly after taking out the screws etc. I shall take my IPad into the garage so i can use the videos for reference.

See, sometimes those YouTube videos are more educational than a 100 year olde man that has been doing it wrong all these years.

You are right...unbolting the right side handlebar from the top triple tree, will allow you to have full movement of that right side handlebar, and can then slide the entire assembly OFF the handlebar.

Sometimes you feel like a nut...sometimes I'm a dork.  Razz
