James, I had EXCELLENT experience with HaulBikes.

They shipped my 2015 Honda Goldwing w/Hannigan GTL sidecar from Olympia, Washington to Ocala, Florida, so I could further ship it to Germany.

Frankly, I was shocked/surprised that they did not put any scratches on this very large sidecar rig, and handled it with CARE.

100% happy with HaulBikes.

EDIT: But James I have to ask....what sidecar rig are you thinking of having shipped, from WHERE to WHERE ???

Point is, some of us are professional sidecar pilots, and might be interested in doing this "epic road trip" for you.

Cool

upstate NY to camano

James, are you attempting to say that the sidecar rig would be shipped from Upstate New York to Camano Island, Washington State ???

Most people on this planet have no idea where "camano" is.

I just happen to live south of Olympia, so the word "camano" is familiar to me....as in Camano Island, Washington State.

Now....exactly what sidecar rig are you thinking of having shipped ????????

Some of us (me) can fly to upstate New York, and have that rig back to Washington state in less than half the time it takes HaulBikes to ship it.

And probably for a third of the price.

HaulBikes are bloody expensive, but none of them are cheap.

I thought the price that HaulBikes charged me to ship an extra large motorcycle sidecar rig from Washington State to Florida was very reasonable.

$ 1,248.00 is quite reasonable, and they delivered it to their main warehouse in Ocala, Florida without a mark or scratch on it.

When you consider that a motorcycle with sidecar takes up the space of two motorcycles, and you break that cost down...divided by 2...then it would only be $ 624.00 to ship a motorcycle the size of a Honda Goldwing from one corner of the US to the other corner of the US.

For anyone that thinks that price is too much, try shipping a Honda Goldwing w/Hannigan GTL sidecar rig from Florida to Antwerp, Belgium, then being trucked down from Belgium to Heidelberg, Germany.

When comparing that with $500 to ship a sidecar from Shanghai China to Swift Current Saskatchewan, $ 1248.00 shipping within the US appears somewhat expensive to me.

I don't think it's listed anywhere, but Geza contacted me on this forum

Yes, it's got the balou front end (maybe it's just getting it out of my system, maybe it' a thing -- just not a ural!!! :D)
the wife made some good points about a larger tub and enclosed option with decently generous storage wld be helpful being where I am (grocery getter, pups, dry cargo etc..it's why i use a promaster minivan instead of a pickup )

on the con it's higher mileage, which is a concern ..OTOH that motor seems to be durable (my watercycle uses the marine variant of that motor - it doesn't have VVT though)

--------------------------------------

2008 Kawasaki Concours C14 with a Hannigan Astro 2+2 sidecar. Bought solo bike new, fully intending to convert it to a sidecar rig. I rode it solo for about 4,000 miles and loved it. Then we were off to Hannigan in Kentucky, where it was modified and mated to the sidecar. The odometer currently shows 72+K miles. The price is $15,000.

The following are the highlights:

THE MOTORCYCLE

  • Since as a rig it no longer leans from side to side, car-type tires are used on special wheels on all three corners, 195 mm 15-inch tires are on the motorcycle, and a 13-inch tire is on the sidecar. These tires wear longer and are cheaper than motorcycle tires. They also have a larger contact patch, allowing faster cornering and quicker braking in all types of weather.
  • Since the difference in the circumference of the tires produced an incorrect speedometer reading, an electronic black box was installed produced by SpeedoHealer. This device allows recalibration of the speedometer to produce accurate readings.
  • The front forks were eliminated in favor of a much beefier suspension called center hub steering, ideal for sidecar use. It looks kind of strange, as nothing seems to support the wheel on the left side.
  • A complete sub-frame was attached to the bottom of the bike to which the sidecar is attached, making a strong four-point connection.
  • A sway bar was installed connecting the rear wheel and the sidecar wheel. This makes the rig handle very flat, allowing much higher cornering speeds.
  • To provide more lighting in the front the headlights were converted to house twin bi-xenon HID bulbs. Excellent investment!
  • There are two small bulbs located under the headlights which were exchanged for two green LED bulbs, giving the rig its name, the Green-eyed Monster. A green LED light strip was installed on the underside of the trailer hitch bar between the bike and sidecar to bathe the area under the rig in green light.
  • A loud airhorn was installed.
  • The original, smaller windshield is included.

THE SIDECAR

  • The sidecar is named 2+2 because it holds one very large and tall person. It can also seat two small children side-by-side.
  • One of my grandsons is six foot five and he can stretch his legs out.
  • The sidecar can be completely enclosed during inclement weather, or the color-matched top can be removed and stowed behind the seat.
  • A fresh air vent can be opened in hot weather.
  • The trunk is larger than the one in our Honda S2000 two-seater sports car.
  • An adjustable coil-over shock is used for suspension in the front.
  • An electric tilt mechanism can be used for fine-tuning the steering.
  • A built-in headlight with a yellow Xenon bulb provides visibility on the road.
  • A rearview mirror with built-in turn signal was added for the passenger.
  • To be better seen I installed a red LED light strip to augment the brake lights, a smaller strip of amber lights on the rearview mirror as a turn signal and a full-width strip of white LED lights in the front.
  • To provide electric power for GPS, electric clothing, etc. two plugs are available in the car: a cigarette-lighter-style and a BMW plug.
  • An additional BMW plug was installed by the driver’s left foot. I use that plug for the battery charger during winters.
  • We live in upstate New York State.

James, I don't believe that is one of the 3 Bill Ballou CHS rigs that was in attendance at the USCA National Sidecar Rally in Topsham, Maine last June, as none of them had a Hannigan Astro 2+2 sidecar attached to them.

Bill Ballou was there, and asked to drive my sidecar rig, as he liked the looks of it. In reply, he wanted me to ride his, and it was a Kwack C-1400 with CHS, so I know how fast those things are, and how well built his CHS front ends are. I have also owned a Hannigan Astro 2+2 sidecar, so familiar with them too.

I would say, if this is what you want, but it. The miles on the bike are northing...NOTHING...to be concerned about.

Get it home to Camano Island, remove all those stickers on the sidecar and bike, install new Orca stickers everywhere, and call it your own.

@miles-ladue the wife said the same about the stickers!

Thanks for the beta on it (another CHS rider had abt the same opinion.  My Kaw motor has been bombproof and it gets into some pretty  unkind environments...I'm year round, you know how it is up here, can't wait for the 12 minutes of summer)

now...to get it here

James, I would give HaulBikes the first try. In my opinion, they are the best.
