40+ year long distance tour rider, many bikes but mostly Goldwings, recently went to a trike but also getting into the sidecar crowd. Present rig I am building is a 1976 GL1000 that was given to me by its original owner and long time touring buddy, prior to his passing. 31k on the bike. Sidecar is a Motorvation Formula II with the electric camber motor. The bike I am bringing back from a 36 year barn sleep, resto mod to give it modern everything to make it a more reliable tour bike. The sidecar, full chassis restoration and I am in the process of converting it from a fixed tub, to a tilt front tub. As I was not able to find much if any info on either sidecar mounting to a GL1000, and zero info on anyone converting the MV tub, wanting to share all my tech specs for all future such searchers. Enough for now. Thanks for having what appears to be a good forum on the subject of sidecars.
@webmaster Hi Fellow sidecar riders. My name is Ross Metcalfe from Manitoba Canada..After talking with Jerry for a while I have asked to be the Regional Rep for Manitoba because I have seen for years it's recorded as vacant in the magazine...I own a 2003 HD Ultra Classic sidecar outfit I ordered new back in the day and a restored 1943 harley WLC with a Goulding sidecar repatriated from Pilson Czech...long story here on that one. That story I may write up for the magazine.. I had a restored 36 VL sidecar since 1982 and put over 55,000 miles on it because the original owners grandson wanted it. Had to let it go and it was a hard decision..I'll stay in touch. Cheers. Ross
Trying my best to figure out how to post on this forum. Since the 90's been on hundreds of tech forums, and for the life of me cannot figure out how to do anything but reply here. Forums will only come up IF I am not logged in, which if not logged in of course cannot post.. DO hope this is all due to the fact I am limited as a new member until I Post something up to three times.
@mkc1962 There is a three post moderation block in place before free posting and attachments are allowed. Keeps the site from getting clobbered by spammers.

When I am logged in, I still when I click on FORUMS at the top it only takes me to "RECENT POSTS". When I am not logged in I can seem to get to anything, but cant post as I am not logged in.. And as far as I can find I dont see any where to start a new thread unless I am still over looking it.
No disrespect to the webmaster, but this is a very odd, out of the ordinary type of tech forum setup.
Trying it all again right now as I have a busy day painting.

Mike, when you are signed in, if you go to the top of this page, and see the word "Forums" at the very top, that is the link for the latest posts, showing all the different postings for every subject, but the latest of everything.
If you want to find a specific thread, or subject, do NOT click on that "Forums" link, but instead.....see the small little HOUSE icon, on the left side (second row down from the top)....inside that small little house icon is where all the sidecar monkeys live, and if you click on that small little house icon, it will take you to the Main Page, showing ALL the different threads, and you can scroll down to any of them.
Once you pick a thread or subject that you like, click on it, and on that new page, there will be a box in the upper right hand corner for "Add Topic", and you can start a new thread there, example.....if you want to start a thread about building your 1976 Honda GL-1000 (Red) with Motorvation sidecar, then click on the "Add Topic".....fill in the very top line with the thread TITLE you want it to be, then in the main body give us all the gory details about this build....whilst in progress.

Hi everyone, my names Greg and I currently ride a 2013 Ural gear up that is likely one of the most spec'd out urals out there. However I am currently selling the rig in hopes of changing over to a bmw with a dmc sidecar. My riding style has evolved ever since my wife has started riding with me and I now need a more highway capable rig rather than an off road one.

Let's start with were you are located and maybe a local can point out potential rig for you..
Sounds like boxer twins are your thing and that's fine.
Some may suggest a boxer 6 for highway use...
@brstr I'm out in colorado. Im not apposed to any particular bike. The bmw's just seem to have been sorted out the most as compared to others like the africa twin or super tenere.
Not opposed to variable engine configurations as opposed to opposed twins.

There's some would take you to task about the suitability of the Africa twin and other Honda's etc etc.
Those that build top line rigs now have turned away from the newer Beemers it seems.
Fancy electronics are not everyone's friend.
But still you should find something that floats your boat.

Okay, you are new here, and haven't seen the pictures and read the build sheets on the Africa Twin sidecar rigs that we have done, or the Super Tenere' rigs that have passed through our portal.
The BMW R bike rigs are still out there for people that haven't figured out YET that there ARE much better bikes to attach a sidecar to.
To be very frank and forthright with you, I know of MANY devout BMW riders that have slowly (like the glacial ice at the Salmon Glacier north of Hyder, Alaska) come around to how great a Honda Africa twin w/DCT transmission is...and have now abandoned all their BMW bikes, and have made, and are continuing to make Honda Africa Twin w/DCT trans sidecar rigs.
Now, I posted 3 rigs earlier for you, that are BMW R-GS bike sidecar rigs, only because I thought that is what you really wanted.
