Have others called in for the reservations? On-line does not seem available.

Yes, you Maine-iac, you have to call John on Monday morning, and ask "if" there are any Deluxe cabins left, then make your reservations.

Best to call John at CMA Iron Mountain campgrounds to make your reservation. They have build more cabins since our last rally there. They also have shaded primitive camp sites, full-service RV - travel trailer spots and... an area to park your rig hauling trailer for those who haul...

As an added bonus, if you buy a rig for sale there and cannot transport it immediately, chances are good that you would be able to store it on site, indoors with very conscientious minders.  Ask me how I know!

Just talked to John, our reservations are confirmed. And it looks like we got the same site we had last time basic_smile

@theskibear I’m going to be around 1500 miles away. Are you driving your rig there or shipping it? I have 2 dogs, so I probably shouldn’t subject them to 1500 miles (1 kid that likes the sidecar will be 12 by then).

Ronnie... Scared ....we don't  SHIP our sidecar rigs TO the National Sidecar Rally.  We either drive them to the Rally,  or we trailer them to the Rally behind our own car or pickup.

This past June I  trailered my BattleWing Galactica behind my Subaru Outback more than 3,250 miles from Washington State to Maine,  then back to Washington State,  so almost 7,000 miles total.

This next June, if I am still kicking, I will drive my BattleWing Galactica to the National Sidecar Rally in Mena, Arkansas....more than 2,200 miles each way for me.

If your two doggies need a ride, I can bring them for you,  but....once they get to the Rally in Mena, Arkansas,  they will like me more...than miss you.

Razz

I’ll be riding from San Diego County, with some stops here and there. It’s a toss up between the 14 and 8 yr old that wants to join me on this trip. Definitely looking forward to hitting some landmarks while we do this!

@miles-ladue haha.. my kids like everyone more than they like their daddy anyways. Thank you 🙏 I think I will either drive my rig by myself or buy a trailer and tow the rig with the pups in my SUV.

BTW, Does one have to have a minimum sidecar skill level to participate? I didn’t see any minimum required skills in the PDF attached to this thread.

I will be driving from Golden, CO.. it would be so good if the kids could deal with riding for a 5-6 hours each day for a couple of days .. I could make a road trip out of it.

@TheSkiBear .. San Diego? How cool. I’ll be in Palm Springs Jan-Apr, 26.. if maybe someday you have free time, we can drive together (of course, if you want to and have time to). I saw videos of the US-1 drive… so cool 😎

Skill level?  What are these words you speak.

In all seriousness, when Karen and I went to our first rally at Mena in 2021, I had exactly three rides in a rig we had gone to West Virginia to trailer back.  It ate its bottom end on the third ride.  We did purchase our second rig while there, a Royal Star/Hannigan outfit.  It was good and I learned a lot.  Now I have one of Miles’ former rigs and am thrilled, though I will never be someone who knows enough or has enough skill to build one.

So.  It’s about community, not proficiency!  You’ll see utter lack of proficiency when I try to run the annual meeting!

@thane-lewis ok, thank goodness. I recall seeing rally pics of some kind of a sidecar race where the dog and their daddy were leaning into a tight turn… I might just sit out on such sidecar races.. my girl is a scaredy princess and I don’t want to risk her getting scared. My boy is an “up for anything” guy, so I don’t quite care much. Thanks for the explanation. I’ll join the rally as well. Looking forward to associating faces with screen names.

It’s not live yet.  Plan is to have it become active January 1 and have a paper registration form in the January/February issue of Sidecarist magazine.
