Perfect, only ~1600 miles away for me. I'll be putting my reservation in today!

Just talked to John, our reservations are confirmed. And it looks like we got the same site we had last time basic_smile

@theskibear I’m going to be around 1500 miles away. Are you driving your rig there or shipping it? I have 2 dogs, so I probably shouldn’t subject them to 1500 miles (1 kid that likes the sidecar will be 12 by then).

I’ll be riding from San Diego County, with some stops here and there. It’s a toss up between the 14 and 8 yr old that wants to join me on this trip. Definitely looking forward to hitting some landmarks while we do this!

@miles-ladue haha.. my kids like everyone more than they like their daddy anyways. Thank you 🙏 I think I will either drive my rig by myself or buy a trailer and tow the rig with the pups in my SUV.

BTW, Does one have to have a minimum sidecar skill level to participate? I didn’t see any minimum required skills in the PDF attached to this thread.

I will be driving from Golden, CO.. it would be so good if the kids could deal with riding for a 5-6 hours each day for a couple of days .. I could make a road trip out of it.

@TheSkiBear .. San Diego? How cool. I’ll be in Palm Springs Jan-Apr, 26.. if maybe someday you have free time, we can drive together (of course, if you want to and have time to). I saw videos of the US-1 drive… so cool 😎

Skill level?  What are these words you speak.

In all seriousness, when Karen and I went to our first rally at Mena in 2021, I had exactly three rides in a rig we had gone to West Virginia to trailer back.  It ate its bottom end on the third ride.  We did purchase our second rig while there, a Royal Star/Hannigan outfit.  It was good and I learned a lot.  Now I have one of Miles’ former rigs and am thrilled, though I will never be someone who knows enough or has enough skill to build one.

So.  It’s about community, not proficiency!  You’ll see utter lack of proficiency when I try to run the annual meeting!

@thane-lewis ok, thank goodness. I recall seeing rally pics of some kind of a sidecar race where the dog and their daddy were leaning into a tight turn… I might just sit out on such sidecar races.. my girl is a scaredy princess and I don’t want to risk her getting scared. My boy is an “up for anything” guy, so I don’t quite care much. Thanks for the explanation. I’ll join the rally as well. Looking forward to associating faces with screen names.

It’s not live yet.  Plan is to have it become active January 1 and have a paper registration form in the January/February issue of Sidecarist magazine.

Indeed, a good plan, Ronnie.  Do contact CMA Iron Mountain (listed earlier in the thread) to make reservations at the site if yo want to stay on site.  Otherwise there are a number of motels in Mena to stay in.

TL/DR: It won’t be Zelle.  The rally registration system uses Stripe, which is a lot like Square and PayPal, except that PayPal takes a lot longer to process than the others.  Zelle requires both parties be enrolled so isn’t as universal.

@thane-lewis I’m ok with paying whatever way works. I can also pay via check but don’t have a checkbook easily accessible .. I’m sure I have it somewhere in the apartment.. haven’t used one in ages. I can stay at any place that allows dogs - camp or motel.. does on-site stay allow me AND my kids? Or is it humans only? Sorry if you’ve already answered this before.

One more question please. I have no problem leaving my kids back at the motel.. but just for my information, are dogs allowed at the rally events? No problems if they’re not.. I’ll just book a hotel.

Thank you for your guidance and patience

I see that someone above has eaten one and a half STROOPWAFFLES  from that original stack of 10.

They come as 4 stacks of 10...per box...and I know them very well
