Pretty sure they will not be done with construction by rally time so just be careful in town. The access to the fairgrounds is open all of the way around but the construction ends at the North entrance to the fairgrounds so with the added traffic from the Highway 50 closure between Gunnison and Montrose it can require a little patience. The good part of this is Highway 92 will be open and construction free so there will be some great riding up to Gunnison and up Highway 133 towards Carbondale. I took the nephew up to Black Canyon of the Gunnison's North Rim yesterday, beautiful ride. This is about 25 miles from the fairgrounds with the last 6 miles being gravel. The North Rim is all gravel road but easily run by any rig.

I have been getting questions about parking at the fairgrounds early. There is no parking or camping in the fairgrounds until the rally starts, the rally is scheduled from Thursday, July 7 until Sunday, July 10. We have the fairgrounds starting on Wednesday, July 6 for admin and rally setup so you can start parking and or camping no earlier than Wednesday, July 6. Be advised that if you show up early we will likely put you to work helping get things setup.

Ruth and I have camping reservations outside the fairgrounds in penoia. Hoping to get there on the 5th but may not .be there until the 6th. We are stopping in Denver for a couple of days to tour the area. Camped in Hays Kansas tonight. 105 degrees and no shade. Hope hochkiss is better
or it will be a hot get together

Current rally forecast is high 80s with 50s at night. The park at the fairgrounds is well shaded with mature shade trees and Heritage Hall has a new AC system so things should be good. Also a short ride up to altitude where it is cool enough to require a jacket. Afternoon monsoons have kicked in early but in town here it is sprinkles at the worst. Denver is looking about the same.
I have always dreaded the Summer ride through Kansas, either baking heat or thunderstorms with tornadoes.
Thanks for the update. Sounds great! Ruth and I plan to be in town on the 5th and will come over to the fairgrounds to help out on the 6th.

I got a call from Sara, the lady in charge of booking the fairgrounds, yesterday to go over the final details. They have changed a few things this year so she just wanted to make sure I was up to date. She is going to meet me, us, at the fairgrounds on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am to deliver the camping permits and make sure that I have all of the access information.
Since they have banned public camping at the fairgrounds due to some transient vandalism all campers must have a valid permit on their vehicle. I tried to explain to her that this is going to be logistically difficult with all of the sidecar rigs involved, and there is really no way the police can verify said permits without a lot of walking around we will see how this works out. This does not mean there is going to be a massive police presence, especially since we only have 4 officers for the town including the chief. The police chief is at our bi-weekly lunch at the senior center and I have talked to him about the rally to make sure he knows what will be going on and to call me directly with any issues so all is well on that front.
All rally attendees will receive a wrist band that will get you into the meals and verify that you belong in the rally, and a vehicle pass. Please make sure you have the pass either on your person or stashed on your rig somewhere so we can be in compliance. It would appear we are going to be the Guinea pigs for the new policy so let's see if we can make it work for them.
Thanks,
Dana

Yoeman’s work you are doing, Dana! Thank you for the planning and risk management for all of us!
Illegitemi non carborundum est!

"At once a cook, and a captain bold, And the mate of the NANCY brig, And a bo'sun tight, and a midshipmite, And the crew of the captain's gig."
I was but a young one when first I went to sea, lessons learned will last a lifetime though. For the record I was 17 in this picture.

Dana, thank you for all you are doing to keep everyone informed.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there.
Walk-ins are welcome folks, the weather is looking great, good food, good music and great riding in the high country. What more could you want?

FYI, Frank and Kaye Rogers will not be able to get to the rally due to motorcycle problems occuring yesterday in Iowa while on the way. Since nothing is open until tomorrow, whenever we get it fixed, we will be just heading home. Have a great rally. Kaye

Sorry to hear that, good luck.
Dana

The party starts rolling in tomorrow, official start Thursday morning.
Had a couple show up on Sunday and they dropped their minivan and trailer at a friend's house here in town and headed out for a few days riding. They will be back tomorrow to get settled into the rally.
They sent a couple of pictures from the road, tell me that is not one happy kid.
Very cool! Ruth and I arrived today and are camped at the Redwood Arms rv park. Very nice campground with 6 RV sites. All have electric, water, and sewerage. Owners very gracious and helpful. Nice size sites with privacy. Coimg to the fairgrounds tomorrow to help with setting up. Ride safe everyone!

So it appears that bad luck , if you believe in that, has followed me Colorado. My bike has a blown clutch and who knows what else, and I’ll miss this rally as well. Thanks to Lyn, Christa and Dave for stopping along the Hwy and giving assistance. I made it to Gunnison and am staying at the TALL TEXAN RV and Camp site until tomorrow morning when I’ll depart for Denver BMW for needed repairs.
Just wondering if my rally shirt and any other stuff in the rally package can be shipped to my address in New York State. I’ll provide the shipping address should I receive a positive reply.
Have a great time all you riders and maybe I’ll make a rally some year
Peter
