I need to get some flat bar stock to mount a rear bumper on a 2003 Harley factory sidecar.  I have the bumper from a Harley police sidecar. I see "hot rolled steel", "cold rolled steel", "tool steel". Does anyone know which I should use? I don't know the difference. Thank you.

i buy simple stuff at the local industrial fasteners place. for more specialized items, i go to online metals:

the last piece of 1/4-inch aluminium o bought was super expensiove, but then, it was exactly what i needed. look at their spec sheets to see what might be applicable to you.

Either would be fine for you. Do you have a Fleet farm. Or Lowes any of them places have a section where they sell steel bars and flat stock in workable sizes.

Most often found in welding supplies. Just picked  some the other day.

Mild steel is what we called it.

Workable, weldable and drillable.
