Does anyone have any advice on a parking brake? I have a hard time trusting the bike and sidecar parked on a slope without some form of brake. Leaving it in gear alone doesn't seem like a good idea.

It is not nice looking, but i use rubber ring for hand exercise. I roll it over front brake lever and right handlebar grip. I can see velcro band in same place, but just have this ring laying around.

Actually I do the same, I have a small bungee in the windshield pouch I wrap around the grip/front brake lever.

Lots of ways to add a brake, On the cool cycles bikes we designed www.coolcyclesicecream.com we used a pull handle that twists to lock to apply the sidecar and back brake of the bike.

A friend showed me his "parking brake" a few years ago. It was just what Vlad said but it was a cheap velcro watch band. I was impressed enough that I got one but have yet to be in a situation where I felt the need to use it. But it's there in my fairing pocket just in case...

I guess that's thinking outside the box! I was contemplating a hand lever between the car and the scooter, cables, and an added mechanical caliper on the sidecar rotor. Thanks for the less expensive ideas.

I keep a small plastic chock in the top box of my Wing outfit and put it under the back wheel. Works a treat.

At Home Depot and Lowes, look around and you'll find a display of Velcro brand products somewhere. Look for the double sided tape that's called "One Wrap". That's what you want. More reliable than elastic bands. Less bulky than bungies to carry on the bars. I use a piece of One Wrap that's about 12" long and wrap it twice around my front brake lever. VERY secure.

Inline Hydraulic brake locks are the real hot ticket item for a parking brake. They plumb into either brake line permanently so that you can actuate brake to make pressure, then flip the lock on and it holds brake line pressure. You can either cut a steel line and use a double flaring tool to flare pipes and fit one in, or use adapter fittings at existing brake line to fit the unit, then a short stub line coming out the other side, simple. Sometimes they'll plumb in betwen a steel line and a flex line where the two join together. They're available with either American SAE brake line fittings or metric because they're used a lot on VW offroad rigs.

They've been used for years & years on trucks and offroad rigs & 4WD's. Mico was the original but they're insanely overpriced! Jamar is much more reasonable, under $35 and is good quality and dependable. Search out VW offroad, 4WD offroad type websites for 'brake lock' or 'line lock' or 'hydraulic park lock'.

Cheap:

By the way, if you cleverly hide the installed unit it makes for a great anti-theft or anti-tampering device!
