The wheel seems to spin fine but there is an inconsistent clunking noise.  Two questions:

Could an unused brake part have come loose?

Does the fender need to be removed?

finally got around to this after geting the boat ready for blackfish season opener...

ANSWERS:

fender must come off. 2 bolts. no problem.

brake shoe adjuster was rattling around inside drum.

bearings where old unsealed variety.

outer dust cover mangled.

felt seals missing.

it looks like the new bearings are sealed.

QUESTIONS:

when using the sealed bearings can i leave off dust covers and felt seals or are they necessary for spacing?

this part was replaced with a steel tube cut to length. ok to stick with that?

Looked up the link. It said "weldging" required.

Sounded real technical. lol8

I'd be measuring to see what spacers etc were needed.

Dust cover?

If it fits.

@brstr thanks. i was wondering what weldging was as well 😀

i dont think that part is appropriate for the wheel with with brake drum that i have anyway. seems to have a hole for a zerk fitting which would be inaccessible and probably ill advised inside a brake drum.

I like Bruce's idea on measuring twice and Weldging once.  😉

Wonder if adding "Steib" to your title would get more notice?  I've got to think there are folks on here who have experience with this unit.  Other than drooling over pictures of this model, I don't have any first hand experience to be of help.

Definitely will keep paws crossed for a successful upgrade.

Hold my keyboard and watch this! 🙃
