Anyone know how to combine front and rear wheel brakes to 1 hand control?
I am adding a sidecar to my 2008 Street Bob and looking to transfer the brakes up to 1 hand control but am not sure where I can pick up a 2 into 1 hydralic adapter for the master cylinder on the handlebar. Anyone else have that set up? I knew a guy who used it on his trike but lost his email.
A hydraulic proportioning valve should be used when connecting the two.
Also be sure to use a master cylinder designed to operate dual front brake discs.

Hello Chris,
You sure should get it from Moto Guzzi or a Brembo dealer.
The Guzzi is(was?) a proportional valve under the seat where the foot break pressure is splitted into 60% for one front disk and 40% back. On a solo bike you have 80% breaking eficiency on the front and 20% on the back. The hand break was just for the second front disc. Most Guzzi drivers told me that they nearly never used the hand break.
On a rig the funny thing is I never got into the relationship of break percentages. But I think 55% front, 30% back and 15% sidecar. that would give me a relationship front back of 64% front, 35% back which is preety close to the 60/40 relation of the Guzzi proportional valve. As I remember this valve is under the seat inside the line, so it should work on a standard front break master cylinder without trouble and you place it where you want...(might be behind the fairing)

If you could find an original Yamaha Venture Royal for a donor, they also had a proportioning valve off the foot brake. We had an 1985 and that was set up I believe in a 60/40 split also.
The 1982 Yamaha XJ1100 Maxim had the same proportioning system. Foot brake lever controlled rear disc and front right disc. Right hand brake lever controlled the left front left disc. Always thought it would be a cool mod on my SR500 rig. I've got one that I am saving for someday.
