I assume dogs are allowed at the rallies aren't they? But what I'm worried about is what am I going to do with him when I go to functions where he can't go. Like going to the Hayes House for dinner? Or any of the tours.

Obviously I've never been to a rally. I can't be the only single guy that has showed up with a dog. Just wondering how things work. Thanks.

I guess I could lock him in the cooler,,,,lol. Or maybe a saddle bag.

If you're tent camping, is Sidecar Willy trustworthy to leave in your tent?  Otherwise secure his lead to one of your tent pegs outside with some water?

I keep several of the screw in tie outs around for various purposes, but my Maddie is trustworthy to leave alone in an enclosed place. I Dont Know

For me its simple if Sam is not allowed then neither am I. It really does not bother me that much, leaving Sam in a house is one thing if i am already staying there but that will normally not happen

I don't really know if I could trust him in the tent by himself. Never tried. I could see him wanting out and clawing at the tent. I could MAYBE bring his small kennel. But looking at the weather forecast it's supposed to be around 85*.  I don't think I would want to leave him inside the tent anyway.

As far as staking out a lead. This makes me think of the scene in Jurassic Park where they staked out a goat to feed the dinosaurs,,,,lol. Don't really know what kind of predators are around at this campsite.

I may have to just limit what I do I guess. We need a doggie day care,,,lol.

How many other people are bringing dogs?

Only real threat to dogs in KS is coyotes.  They are only a threat at night and to dogs that are free ranging.

Has anybody called the restaurant to see if there is outside seating, or a table that could be setup outside?

I read an ad article in Coyote's Life magazine warning of the dangers to eating free range dogs (FRDs).  Article stated they have been known to cause cancer in the state of California.

Excellent question, and someone that is a Caretaker of a Dog should do that...call the restaurant, and ask that question.

I did call the restaurant before I made this post. But I just asked if dogs were allowed inside at all. Which I didn't think they would be. He said only if it was a service dog. Anyone got a sharpie I can use to write on his harness,,,,lol.

I didn't think to ask about outside seating. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Just my 2 cents and it's only worth a penny, we DO NOT leave our pups at camp unattended, we have traveled with our dogs for years and we always take them with us to wherever we go. In MANY cases we would just order our food and eat outside whether there was outside seating or not. We have been known to put them in their little carriers and take them in with us. I do know some that will leave them in the sidecar in the shade, I wouldn't be against that but ours are not used to that and might misbehave. We find the joy of bringing them with us far out ways the minor inconveniences you run into around restaurants.

how can you put a price on something like this

2015 Sidecar Rally Sturgis 145

  or this

2015 Sidecar Rally Sturgis 057

I totally agree. I'd say our furry friends are priceless. I very rarely ride with out my boy. Unless it's just to go to the store or something and don't want to leave him in the sidecar.

What sucks is I'm now scared to death some low life will steal him. Even out of my truck. Willie gets all excited and steps all over the power lock switches and would unlock the door for someone to take him. He's actually locked me out. I have to make sure I take the keys with me,,,lol.

The funny thing is I got him to take with me everywhere. Now I don't dare go anywhere with him I can't trust to leave him in the truck for a minute. I WILL NOT go to Walmart with him.

As far as traveling with him goes. I'm trying to think of how I'm going to make pit stops with him. I can use a debit card and pay for gas at the pump. But what about when I need to go in somewhere? Like to use the bathroom. It would kill me to come out and him be GONE!!   This really is stressing me out.

@calvin-watson

When we were doing the volunteer pet therapy visits we were required to keep the dog with us at all times, including bathroom breaks.  I had a big shepherd, and a smallish Shorthair Pointer.  Only visited with one dog at a time.

Both were able to fit in the bathroom stall (when available I'd use the big handicap stall).  Depending on the bathroom cleanliness I'd grab some paper hand towels to put on the floor if needed.  Wear disposable gloves, fold up an edge of each paper and keep a few spares to pick up the nastiness off the floor, so you aren't touching it.

Being as they were volunteer dogs, not service dogs we were not able to go into grocery stores or dining facilities.  But we were able to use most restaurant/bar patios.  Most the time the waiter/waitress would come open the gate for us to come in to the patio area, so we didn't have to go inside.

Bottom line, where there is a Willy, there is a way.  😎

I wondered about something like this but didn't know how to describe it.  I've never had a dog small enough to use something like this.

I carry an umbrella to cover the sidecar when no shade is available and leave the pup tethered in the tub, water, shade, no sketchy areas and in sight

I wouldn't have an issue around the rally surroundings. Looks like no SC on your bike, empty your trailer make it homey for fido. Angled parking in front of the restaurant so the trailer length could be an issue get creative with parking

John @spat, the OP here...Calvin, Caretaker of Sidecar Willie, usually does have his sidecar attached to the bike, and he will have it attached to his bike when he comes to the Flint Hills Rally.

He removed the sidecar, temporarily, so that he could install the Leading Link front end on his Goldwing 1500.

Sidecar Willie will be arriving inside the sidecar, like Caesar arriving in a golden chariot to the roaring crowds in Rome.
