Rode the KLR Adventure rig to Miami for shipping down to Colombia, then to ride for several months.

Unfortunately a local motorists thought my body was good for wiping dust off her hood. After dropping the rig off at the shipping agent's warehouse, I walked the mile back to the motel. Crossing an intersection, a young lady decided to dart out into the cross traffic in her big white SUV, ignoring that I was in the crosswalk first.

Spun me around and threw me to the ground. Luckily did not get run over, no broken bones, no internal damage. Lots of muscle stress and strains

Driver stopped, police gave her a ticket, I get pain meds until healed.

Son coming from Texas to take the KLR and I back home.

Maybe South America next year... Ride safe, but walk even more carefully ya'll

At least you're ok. Too bad about the trip but it means we may see you at the rally.

That is quite a story Jan!!  And the general public thinks that riding is dangerous.  Now we add walking.

Get well!!

Damn!! Sorry to read this Jan!! Glad you didn't get hurt any worse but that's bad enough. Might be just as well that if it was going to happen, it happened when it did. While you were still in the USA instead of thousands of miles away from home... Heal fast my friend. Of course that goes without saying....

Hello Don Jan,

in Costa Rica we have the saying:

"There is no bad that doesn't come for good!"

In early years I thought it would be somehow fatalistic.

But in 1999 to 2000 for 8 month I really started to learn what it means: "There is always some inherence from above in these kind of accidents. There will come opportunities or new life aspects, you did not expect the moment you handed over your rig to the shipping agency."(*)

Now get  healthy and strong again, don't worry and be happy about every new day that you wake up.

Start to worry the day you wake up and nothing aches.

Best wishes.

Sven

(19 years I got from the above as present and full of adventures since then. Next attempt might pass by here perhaps.)

In 1988 my own Centralamerica trip stopped in Death Valley and my trip to Panama 2 days before the bus would go. Both occasions due to accidents.... now you may say, I got to my wife by accident.

"There is no bad that doesn't come for good."

30 years and counting.

Jan, do yourself a favour and check for embolia prevention!

Sure sorry the pedestrian accident put a stop to this journey, but Sven's assessment may well prove accurate.  Heal up quickly.

Here's to future journeys!

Amen... google top ten pedestrian accident areas, Florida occupies eight of the ten spots. EMS medic tells me "Florida drivers hate Miami drivers".

Several years we brought the boys to Florida for a vacation. A horse threw me, badly bruised lower back and legs...  returned to Texas lying in back of minivan.  Son Alan is driving here now to take the KLR rig and I back to Texas. Deja vu all over again.

Note to self: When in Florida, be very, very careful.

Thanks for the well wishes. See you at the rally in Idaho.
