Okay,  Okay,  I  realize that Sir Thane doesn't  know the years of the  Honda ST-1100 vs the years of the  Honda ST-1300, and....this may be one of those obtuse posts that Sir Thane does....just to test me, and keep  me  on my  toes.

AND....the seller  of this Honda ST-1100 is ignorant  about  what  year his motorcycle is.....

Because,  the Honda ST-1100 in the  ad cannot possibly be a  2006 model  year motorcycle...l00 % impossible  !

The Honda ST-1100 was built in 1991 thru 2002.

The Honda ST-1300 was built in 2003 thru 2012 for the  US market,  a couple years  longer for the  European  markets.

The bike in the  ad is 100 %  a ST-1100, ergo, and therefore  it can not be a 2006.

Apparently,  I am  required to  add........required  I  say........that  this IS a bike/sidecar  that  someone  would be really  smart to  buy.

For the low, low price of $ 800. someone is going to get a great deal.

My gut tells me  this is a 1992 or 1993 ST-1100, and is NOT the ABS/TCS model.

The mileage of  157k doesn't  bother me,  because  my 1991 ST-1100 had 211k miles on it when I  traded it in at a Honda Dealership,  and they gave me  fair trade-in value for  it.

Frankly,  I  would be  betting that the "oil leak" he has reported, is either a loose oil filter,  the wrong  oil filter,  or a bad oil drain  plug.

I would  still trailer it  home, but.....I  truly believe that this is a diamond in the  rough. Fix the oil leak.....see if the carbs need balanced, or not.....check  on Service Records  to verify  timing belt replacement,  then ride the  heck out of this  rig.

The seller is  75 years old,  has given  up on doing  anything  more with this rig,  so politely  take advantage of  this gift horse.

WOW, that  didn't  take  long. Just after  posting the words above,  I  checked the  ad again,  and it is now PENDING.

Listed 21 hours ago, so someone  recognized  a very  good  deal

My greatest concern, regardless of the specific year of the bike is that the car not get dumped or left to rot.  Spectacular price for the car, much less a built and repairable intact rig.

And, yes, I'm no afficionado of the ST series.  I do know that the part that gives me pause with the 1100 is non-availability of ECUs for them which is widely reported in the ether.

I contacted several "local" members about it via email.  Gina at Baldeagle Sidecar has been trying to get in touch all day.

@miles-ladue I drive a 1994 ST1100 with a 2002 EZS RX5 Sidecar, with leading link front forks, auto style wheels and tires it is very good combination, even without the steering mod and auto tires. You are probably correct in placing the year of the bike, but I suggest the Sidecar is a 2006 Hannigan. I think you are close but no cigar in your analysis of the oil leak. The '91-95 ST1100 have a 28-amp oil cooled alternator, and all are prone to leak at the potted wire connection. This leak is the death knoll of 28-amp alternator. 28-amp haven't been available for more than 15 years and no one has been able correct the leak. Some good used 28-amp caps come up on Ebay occasionally or perform the 40-amp alternator upgrade of the 1996-2002, a lot of work.  In any case a good sidecar for $800 is quite a deal and one could attempt to repair the leak it demands a look-see.

@sidewise, then I was fortunate that my '91 ST-1100 never had the oil leak at the potted wires connection, in the 211,000 miles I rode it in 3 years.

And, the "close, but no cigar".... that's because I don't smoke.... never have.

Makes sense that the Hannigan sidecar is a 2006.

On a serious note....I want to THANK @thane-lewis for posting the ad for this Honda ST-1100 w/Hannigan Sidecar, as it's the kind of rig that gets the blood flowing for a lot of people.

Good find, Thane....and Thank You

My 1st experience piloting a sidecar any distance and I do consider it that way .

Was on an ST 1100 rig.

Plenty of go.

It was set up in an odd way in the bike leaned a long way towards the chair.

But always since looked  closely at any ST1100 on the market.

Wasn't aware of the alternator flaw but good to know.

The police used them here so a few available over the years.

Sure hope whomever gets this rig, joins up here.  😎  Would be fun to follow along with what happens.

I'd do the alternator update no matter, as more amps are better.  Be they Marshal, Fender, Vox, Orange or even those Messy Boogie ones like Santana uses.  😉

Seriously though, what a smokin' good deal.  👍 Sounds like a little elbow grease, and a few dollars for an excellent rig.

Hold my keyboard and watch this! 🙃

From the Charles deGaulle airport in Paris, France....I must concur with my far Western Aussie mate, in that I owned a total of 3 of the earlier ST-1100s, and had never heard of this alternator issue until now.

Owned a '91, that I put 211k miles on, and had two '93s...at the same time, and put a lot of miles on them. Never had an alternator problem, not an oil leak....ever.
