I'm in a similar position to you, but the main thing for me is that I want to keep my rigs clean . I live miles down an extremely  dusty gravel road, so I'm looking for an enclosed trailer.     I realize that it's going to be expensive, but it's either pay up or do without.   While I am at it I might just as well get a trailer big enough for two sidecar rigs, I have two CJ750's one of which I have just imported from China. They are 77 "  wide so I'm going to need a trailer at least 7' wide internally and preferably 14 feet long

A decent trailer will cost more than both my rigs combined, that said I got my rigs at a decent price.  I think it's worth it to keep what I have nice.

PS ,   I would consider a  Royal Enfield INT650 + Cozy Euro sidecar rig to be in the super hi- fi category.

@mick-boon those look super awesome. I’m in an apartment complex with no extra parking.. unless I park outside the complex. Considering that this is south Florida, my rig would be sold for parts on the first night itself. Here’s mine .. Uwe from Unb customs (Denver, North Carolina) set it up and this is her maiden ride

That's a neat and  tidy looking outfit, like they were made for each other.

Do you have much sidecar driving experience ?

As you live in an apartment  it might be worth considering getting an enclosed trailer, then you would have somewhere out of the elements to store your rig. Just a thought basic_smile

Not all dogs make good sidecar passengers.   Alice, my latest dog craps in the sidecar without fail after ten minutes of riding, makes no difference when she was last fed. It's a shame, because she loves sidecars.  Other sidecar dog owners have noted the same thing.

@mick-boon that’s a good idea, actually.. I just don’t know what enclosed trailer to get (never hauled a trailer with my jeep, hence zero knowledge or practice). I have zero sidecar experience.. I’ve only ridden a bike on the blue ridge parkway for 300 miles.. that’s the only experience I have in my life (3 days of riding hahahaha). If my kids don’t “take” to the sidecar, I’m sending them back (the dogs, not the sidecar haha).. we’ve already had that conversation.

I’ve started training them on doggles

Ronnie Guha @guha-ronniegmail-com, regarding shipping your sidecar rig, the best company I have used is HaulBikes.

They shipped my 2015 Honda Goldwing w/Hannigan GTL sidecar from Olympia, Washington to Ocala, Florida for less than $ 1,300.00, all-in, and it arrived in Florida without a scratch on it. I was very happy with their service, and will use them again, if needed.

Most motorcycle transport companies are NOT experienced with hauling sidecar rigs, and some will simply say NO, as they don't know how to do it.

My Goldwing/Hannigan GTL sidecar rig is MUCH larger than your Royal Enfield w/Cozy sidecar rig, so a relatively "short" ride from Colorado to Florida will be less than $ 1,000.00.

Mick Boon @mick-boon, you will find it VERY difficult to find a fully enclosed trailer that is 7', or 84" wide on the inside width.

I know, because I searched, and only found  a very few, and by the time you add the width of the trailer wheels/fenders, etc, it gets very close to the maximum width allowed on the road, which is 8.5', or 101".

To be more narrow than the maximum of 8.5', you have to buy a trailer with the wheels UNDER the trailer bed, such as a snowmobile trailer, and in buying something like that, the ramp getting UP to the trailer bed will be steep.

Your solution, Mick Boon, is a Bear Track all aluminum trailer, it's an open trailer, but you can get one long enough to haul both of your CJ-750's. In actuality, your CJ-750's are not all that wide....in the sidecar world, and Bear Track trailers sells their trailers in a variety of widths.

I have the 82" x 10', or 120", so it is 82" wide BETWEEN the fenders, and 10 feet long, and it easily hauls a full sized Honda Goldwing 180 w/Hannigan sidecar.

My point (I do eventually get to THEE point) is....your solution Mick Boon is to buy an all aluminum Bear Track trailer, in the length you want to haul two CJ-750's.....yes, they are open air trailers....but then, have a 50+ gallon AIR COMPRESSOR at your home site, so once you arrive home you can just use the compressed air to BLOW OFF the dust from the gravel road.

https://beartracktrailers.com/product/80-wide-hd-utility-trailer-with-brakes/

If loading up at home, then driving the trailer OUT the long gravel road, the air on the sidecar rigs will blow off 93.14159% of the dust, so you arrive at your destination with relatively clean CJ-750's.

I mean, do you really want to arrive somewhere with super clean CJ-750's, and have people assume you spit and polish your CJ-750's....rather than drive them, as they should be driven ?

That's all I have to say about that.... Shut Mouth

@guha-ronniegmail-com

There is no difference to speak of with enclosed or open trailers, they both need no special driving experience when driving forwards, it's only when you need to reverse that you will find you have a problem.   I am worse than useless at reversing trailers.

Dogs don't seem to notice googles when in a sidecar, they have other things to interest them like all the smells in the wind.

You will need some practice with your sidecar rig. I recommend finding a large empty parking lot and learning to fly the chair, once you have mastered that you will be safe.

A sidecar rig is not like riding a solo bike, it's a new learning experience altogether, that said they are much more fun that any solo motorcycle.

@miles-ladue Thanks. HaulBikes came in at $1300 (from Denver, NC to Fort Lauderdale, FL). Next time I will use them as their website also showed that they understood sidecars. I ended up going with SGT Auto Transport for this time (came in at $1K)... but considering the fact that I will be riding in NC more than in FL, I will probably have to ship the hack each May and November. Or... if my kids love the sidecar, I will drive up to NC each May.

There are quite a few trailers in Saskatchewan that are big enough for what I need, I'm interested in this one, it should be the last trailer I will ever need. 14ft aluminium enclosed trailer | Cargo & Utility Trailers | Regina | Free local classifieds - Kijiji

I drive my black CJ on gravel roads all the time, it gets so filthy that it's not worth cleaning it.

It's plain to see you have never experienced the gravel roads of Saskatchewan.

I like to have clean machines. I just bought this Scott , and I want to keep it looking beautiful.   An enclosed trailer will help me to do that.[img] [/img]

@mick-boon Thanks for the headsup. I will practice as much as I can in flatland florida... get comfortable before having my kids in the sidecar. Of course, I will now have to buy another Royal Enfield (Himalayan) so I can ride by myself as well.. Since I am new to riding (9 hours total), sidecar should be easy learning for me (since I don't have habits to undo). But, I am riding XC in Costa Rica next month with no sidecar... so I need to practice riding a bike as well.

Mick Boon, first, that is a very nice Scott....congrats on finding such a nice one.

Second, that is a really nice enclosed trailer. Spendy, but worth every penny.

However...third...it's plain to see that YOU have no idea who I am, to think that I have never experienced the gravel roads of Saskatchewan.

Wink

Having ridden a 2 wheeled motorcycle on all 7 Continents, I have experienced on multiple occasions the gravel roads of the far north, from Alaska, throughout all of the Yukon, all of the Northern Territories, all the way across the prairie provinces, to Labrador/Newfoundland.

From Nepal & Tibet, to Chile' and Argentina. Yes, the gravel roads in Sask can throw up a huge plume of dust for miles on end, and you have to hope that the wind is blowing sideways to blow that dust plums OFF the roadway, just so you can see...if you happen to be relatively close behind another vehicle.

That trailer you are looking at will serve you well.

friday

And Ronnie @guha-ronniegmail-com, there are ways to reduce the costs of shipping with HaulBikes.

Find a Harley-Davidson dealer relatively close to you, and have the sidecar rig picked up there, as it costs more to be picked up at a residential address. HaulBikes likes to use large parking lots to pick up bikes, or sidecar rigs. I could have chosen any Walmart, Home Depot, etc....but I met them at a H-D dealership that was 22 miles from my house, and it saved money.

Also, for drop-off location, they can do the same thing on the drop-off end....find a large parking lot, like a Walmart, a Home Depot, or an H-D dealership...or their main warehouse in Florida which is in Ocala, FL...and the price is considerably cheaper.

My price for a sidecar rig that is considerably larger than your Royal Enfield rig, from Washington State to Florida, was $ 1,245.00...if I remember right.

So Colorado to Florida SHOULD be less money.

@miles-ladue OMG "Nepal & Tibet, to Chile' and Argentina".. I have bookmarked all those tours.. kinda pricey, but I wanna die with zero 🙂 Would you recommend the self guided tours (unfortunately, I don't have a friend) or guided tours only? I am doing the Great Himalayan challenge next july - but there will be more riders there. All I need to ensure is cell phone connectivity so that when mom calls she doesn't get a clue that I am out riding.
