@mick-boon whoa 🤯 man.. I admit that I don’t know automobiles at all… but I had no clue a vehicle more than 25 years old can still run!! On automobile websites, I usually filter for 2020+ (whatever vehicle I’m looking to buy). Cool 😎 education.

So, you bought a 39 year old bike??? And it still runs? looks new?? How do you find bike parts to fix such an old bike? Is anything still manufactured? Do you know how to fix things?

Parts are freely available and they are easy to work on and fix.

I just bought this bike, it's a Scott which was made in 1957 which makes it 68 years old

What you need to understand is that the age of The Motorcycle is determined by it's frame.   Not The sidecar, the engine, the wheels, or anything else.   If the frame can be show to be 500 years old then the complete rig is 500 years old.

The car runs, stops and so far has gotten around every corner in the last hundred years.

The bike had a long rest.

No one knows its full history.

but is now 122 years old.

Still running it's original piston and rings.

Some bit's non original

@brstr That car !!! OMG 😱 WOW 🤯 If it could go up and down hilly areas…. Whoa 😮 dude!!

I grew up in India carrying 1-2 people on my bicycle ( main mode of transport).. still prefer bicycles with no gears, chain guards, mud guards and simple, plain, straight handles .. so simple and elegant…

Have you ever heard of mopeds? My mom saved up Rs 7000/- and bought me one. It was called a LUNA… even the dogs that chased me at 430 AM were faster than me.. but my first love 💕 forever love..

I did get a chance to ride a Vespa (scooter) a few times though.. you can easily take two dogs on a Vespa (foot area and back)l. Brilliant fun !🤩

@miles-ladue hahahaha.. I admit, I was living under a rock… 🤘 Only after my divorce at 50, did I decide to live *only* for myself and my kids.. now, everything I missed out on, for 25+ years, I’m catching up on.. wish I could buy a car like the one in @Brstr post.. but that’s probably for billionaires..

Dude.. are you telling me that a 100 year old FIAT still runs? Me dad had a FIAT, man! Straight lines, simple car… loved it.. broke all the time, but loooooved it. I drove it once, but got caught (small village, everyone knows everyone problem). Dad used to take us to the railway station 3-4 hours away.. We never knew if we would “make the train”.

Key lesson from your “I just traded in to my local dealership a 39 years old” and @mick-boon  “go for a motorcycle maintenance training course” tips - don’t be scared of older vehicles. They might still run.

That, my friends, is GOLD, as I only like retro automobiles…l Thank you 🙏 all for some kick butt education !!

Biggest downside of carburetors is that if one is not PERSONALLY able to do all such maintenance, very few shops employ anyone who is able to do such maintenance, and thus, have prominent signage stating that they will not even attempt service of any sort on a carbureted vehicle.  That fact puts a great many possible options out of reach for many.

Carburettors are simple to work on, and if you really can't work on the carb just buy a new one for $50 on AliExpress or Amazon.

Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie...

Maintenance is about keeping it on the road...

Repairs are about getting it off the road and home again...

@brstr lol so true. Ok, I’ll look for motorcycle repair training then.. or a combo of both.

@miles-ladue Just wanted to confirm somethings with you (in case you have time).

When I go to buy this BTU76144 one.. (the 12 ft one), there will be these additional fees, correct?

The Ft Myers shop has it in stock and the shop is a simple one day round trip for me (although, they are selling for $500 more that the Carrolton GA one). The sales man said

- We have a $99.00 administration fee
- then fees to the State of Florida: $1'00 per tire recycle fee
- Sales tax per the county you register in,
- and then the registration per the State DMV (varies).
- Per Lee County this brings the total to about $4450.00.
- I plugged in $100.00 for the registration but it could be up or down a little from that.

I should also plan to buy / install a wheel chock, correct? Any hints on the size I should go for and how much it might cost?

Thank you once again

Ronnie, the short answer is.... their numbers are correct... for buying from them.

I can split the infinite minutiae, like saying that the $ 99 admin fee is different for each state, but given that they are already charging $ 500 more than Harper's Trailer Sales in Carrollton, Georgia....then the bottom line is.... their numbers are correct.

The only way to pay less, is to pay more.... meaning if you go up to Carrollton, Georgia to "possibly" pay less, it will cost you for the extended drive up, the overnight stay, and the long drive back .. towing the new trailer.

Your problem is... you live in Florida.

Ultimately...the proposed cost of $ 4,450.00 for this BTU76144S is an acceptable price.

An Aluma trailer of the same size would cost you 50 percent more.

@miles-ladue Cool Thank you. Any wheel chock size you'd recommend that I should look to buy/install? If I go to buy it from a trailer shop, I might as well get them to install the wheel chock as well. Thoughts?

If you ask the trailer shop... they will want to know the WIDTH of your front TIRE on the Royal Enfield.

Yes, for simplicity sake, if the trailer shop has a standard motorcycle wheel chock....but one.... BUT... they will also need to know exactly WHERE to but it down to.

Shop on Amazon....get the right picture in your brain of what kind of front wheel chock you need.... then ask the trailer shop if they have one.

If they do....load your RE Sidecar rig up onto your new trailer, just touch the front tire of the bike up to the front cross rail....tie down the Sidecar rig at 4 points with ratchet style tie downs....then drive back to the trailer shop, and have them install the front tire chock.... when the Sidecar rig is centered left and right... and the rig is slightly forward of the weight being centered fire and aft.

I would suggest that you make your own wheel chock, like I did, wherein I used Cedar 2x6 boards to make a wheel STOP, with the forward end of the wheel STOP butting up against the forward rail of the trailer, then the Cedar boards are stacked in such a way that the front tire of my Sidecar rig (which is 8" wide) rests up against this stack of Cedar boards, in the same profile as the roundness of the tire.

BUT.... you would have to be mechanical like I am.

Frankly, for YOU....a metal wheel chock that is made to lock in the front wheel of a motorcycle....is ideal for you. Reality... should cost you $ 25 to 75 bucks, plus installation. And since you are paying this Fort Myers trailer shop $ 4,450 to buy the trailer... they MAY be kind enough to throw in the wheel chock and installation.

Just ASK....it doesn't hurt to ASK.
