Well Guys an Gals an Poochez

I have been given time off by my oncologist, no new growth and the last infected site is no longer visible and the Signatera test numbers  4.2 seem to confirm it Yeah me =) Yeah i know the insidious little bastard will be hiding somewhere!!

I have kinda decided to visit the rockies but i am unsure where would be best its a massive area, not fond of crowds, thinking of state parks etc for camping.

I will be traveling from Buffalo Kansas  and would welcome route and camping suggestions. I have about a month clear so very doable i think =)

Great news Steve! 🤩

When are you thinking of starting this adventure?

There is a great little motorcycle museum in St. Francis, KS.  So if you are anywhere near there, that would be a fun stop.  Also if you end up in near Wilson, KS there is a pretty cool decommissioned Atlas Rocket site.  Think there is camping here as well (best to check with the owner).  https://www.atlasadastra.com/

Scott

I am just coming off chemo pump today so i will not going until about Tues it depends on my reaction which is normally good apart from some tiredness.

Thanks for the info Not sure of a route yet, is Colorado or Wyoming better to view get close  the rockies? Be nice to avoid crowds but that is pretty unlikely =)

I am in South Western Colorado in a town called Hotchkiss. This is a great area to see the Rockies. There is a lot of BLM and National Forest camping plus state parks and National parks every where. Give me yell if you want some more information. I also have shop space and tools if needed.

@dirtydr Great thanks for the info, i will see how my potential route develops. The two suggestions so far seem to be nicely spaced for riding time.

My vote goes to Dana's area of Colorado.

Another thought for a stop would be to see who is playing Red Rocks Amphitheater.  If a group/person you like is playing there (and tickets are available), it would be a worthy detour.  https://www.redrocksonline.com/

Steve Ives, you have to excuse Scott Heath, as he has trouble reading that you want to visit the ROCKIES.....not KANSAS.

Maybe Scott Heath, that lives in the ROCKIES, somehow thinks that Kansas is also in the ROCKIES.

For Pete's sake, Scott, pull out a paper map, and LOOK at which states are in the Rockies.

And Steve Ives, in case Scott Heath does not invite you to Roosevelt, Utah, where he lives, I am inviting you to stay in Scott's yard, and camp there.

Also, Scott....Steve explicitly stated he wants to avoid crowds, so...why suggest that he attend a concert in an amphitheater ?

Man from Roosevelt, Utah, you need to READ these posts....ya wanker.

Weeellll Scotts suggestions give me the outlines of a route to the Rockies so he is a well meaning, which counts right =)

An easy ride over a couple of days unless i do it in one to  St Francis don't know yet.

Hotchkiss might just be a good end point to stay for a few days or more.

It may be that i will hotel en route to there then camp, we shall see =)

Of course my post also gave you the opportunity to play the grumpy old fart so winners all round =)

🤣 🤣

As the chief pilot of Battlewing Galactica, I can see how'd you'd be able to teleport directly from Buffalo, KS into the Rocky Mountains (Ya wanker 🤣).  But us mere mortals actually have to travel through Kansas, and eastern Colorado to get to the Rockies.   Oh the inhumanity! 😮

I'm with Steve when it comes to crowds, I try to avoid them as well.  However, for the right artist/group playing at Red Rocks Amphitheater it would be worth it based on the health of one's immune system.  That is a pretty epic outdoor venue.

As to Roosevelt, UT.  Great place for oil workers, miners and ranchers.  Otherwise it's a decent place for a bathroom break, while passing through to somewhere scenic.  This time of year I'd recommend staying in the higher elevations and forested area of the Rockies.  Utah is best visited between September and May.  It was 100 degrees here yesterday.

Most of the approachable central US will be under a heat advisory until September by the looks of it.  Bite the bullet and head for western Colorado when you can and mainline fluids along the way for both you and Sam.

From Hotchkiss, I'd probably head south.  Ouray, Telluride, Silverton (Million Dollar Highway), San Juan Mountains.  The mountains of Northern New Mexico are stunning as well, with some pretty decent altitude.

Dana will have better/more complete info.  How are you for O2 content?  My friends who struggle a bit with O2 have Oxygen concentrators that work well for higher elevation.  If you can stay above 7,000' the temps should be good.  Maybe your doctor can set you up with something, if you tell him you'll be traveling from 7k' to over 10k' elevation.  It's a dry heat, which really doesn't count unless you're the one in it.  🤣

Western Kansas through Eastern Colorado, is like driving through Texas.  It goes on for miles and miles. Way bigger than I expected on the first eastern road trip.  You may also hit some pretty big side winds through that area.  Not sure what stops are available enroute.  If there is cool stuff to see, it might be worth having a "plan b" to keep the daily mileage low.

Great thanks. Yes chemo and lungs are not a good fit and high heat can be uncomfortable for me so plans and directions may change.
