Hi,
We just bought an older rig - an 85 Honda Nighthawk with what I think is a Champion Daytona sidecar attached. But since it is an older bike, I'm thinking there may come a day that we need to separate the two, and put the sidecar on something else. But in our area, I know of no places that work on sidecars at all. The closest I found is Los Angeles area, over 100 miles away, but at least that's do-able.
I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any places in So. Calif, or even central California that work on sidecars, sell side cars etc?
Thanks!
Our first job will be to (I guess) see a Honda service place to see if they can lengthen (or replace) the exhaust so it doesn't end right next to where I sit in the sidecar (cough, cough!)
Thanks!

Doubt if you'll get much from Champion unless you have a trike.

Try SideStrider in Van Nuys, CA. 818-780-5542

Doug still works with sidecar rigs.

Depending on what you need... I highly recommend Matt Gibbs. He is crazy smart, and can make and beautifully design just about anything. I trust him, and hope he is still well... Here is a link to his info: http://www.sidecar.com/MapResult.asp?c=Newhall&s=CA&cty=USA.. The link is slow -

I forgot about Matt, We have worked with him in the past, and I have heard good things, more then I can say about some shops in California.

FYI:
Champion now owns Lehman trikes and have a plant in Spearfish, SD. They have provided at least two very attractive sidecars for Indian of Sturgis. Their inventory shows a red rig and a black rig. ( http://www.indianmotorcyclesturgis.com )

Matt installed my previous sidecar rig and did an awesome job. He was truthful in saying it would be a few months before it was done. He had to build most everything from scratch , as the kit that came with the sidecar was junk. He built a one-off aluminum bracket for the steering stabilizer, upgraded all the hardware to safe specs, and made some beautiful welds in the process. He likes to weld his sidecar brackets to the frame because he has seen some bolt on brackets fail. If you don't need your rig done tomorrow, I would definitely bring Matt anything you have because he does great work. BTW, he's a heck of a nice guy and looks exactly what you would picture an old school fabricator to look like! =)

Claude,

I spoke with Doug Bingham last week and while the old location had closed, Sidestrider is still very much open at a new address. Doug has down sized, finally admitting that he is getting older, but he is still in the sidecar biz and ios selling and mounting new and used sidecars. You can reach him at 818-903-1157 (his cell phone) and he still answers the old shop number. Sit down before you call and be sure to have a cold drink at hand before you call, Doug's a talker ;^).

The person that replied to a message on his FB page said the shop was closed and didn't offer a new address. Guess the phone number should get me the new address. His old shop was only about a 20 minute drive, so way more convenient than anything else. Great news he is still in the biz!

I apologize for any confusion regarding SideStrider. I also edited my earlier post. Haven't heard from Doug in a while should have called him. We typically talk every month or so. Someone told me Doug retired and was hanging out at home. Check this out....apparently there is some confusion.
