Looking good!  How long before you get to return?

Yes, 27mm pipe is a lot to work with.  Must have been an adventure to manipulate the whole piece into place.  I'd have invited the wedding guests over to help.  lol

Simple physics, my dear Watson.

Build one large diameter helicoil, slightly larger diameter than the total steps width.

Then, using a block 'n tackle chain hoist, lower the newly formed helicoil down.... whilst spinning it in the proper direction, so that it essentially "screws" down in place.

Then weld in the baluster posts, to keep the hand rail at the required height

Retired and riding from that other site has a blog about living in Vietnam.

I am starting to relate about the cultural issues involved.

And that is just relating to driving etiquette .

Note nothing to do with rules.

As usual Miles your grasp of a curly situation leaves me almost  speechless.......

Shame I  never thought of that.

A good thing I never left hand threaded it.

This mornings pic shows some flatbar bands so I can sheet it for weather and security.

More to come.

Bruce, if you do enclose it with sheathing, add the humorous touch....by including a lever that can make all of the steps lay flat, in concert with each other, so that once the lever is thrown, the steps become a SLIDE.

Getting down would be easy....just slide down. But getting up it would be difficult, especially if it rains a bit

Flying in a few hours.

Be home late tonight in my bed.

Probably be to quiet to sleep for a bit.

It's been an amazing trip so far.

Got the frame for the stairs built.

The locals a staggered at what one man can do alone.

My friend here may or may not finish sheeting it before my next visit .

I asked if he could rust proof it 1st.

Then secure it against trespass 2nd.  Or 1st really.

Then finish it of if he can.

Be nice to see it weather proofed at least.

Still I came here for for my daughter and her boys mostly.

And that was a success .

Still feeling my way as a retired tradesman.

There's the spiritual journey as well that most likely will predominate.

When we get home there's elections that could well decide if we still have things like freedom of speech.

The Chinese government is conducting life firing exercises of our East Coast .

They have become more aggressive of late.

And our current government is weak where it counts.

Hoping for our version of the American election.

Love or hate they are getting things done.

Satisfied with way the trailer took shape.

Welded a couple of brackets to the ramps.

The hinge pins came from a mini skid steer loader I had years ago.

Waste not etc.

Holds the back of the body very rigidly while travelling .

Just need to load it up and put it over a weigh bridge.

Pretty sure I'm within limits but need to see for sure.

Heading to the Bunbury 2 day bike run.

Will see how it performs as a loaded rig.

Put on by the Indian Harley club.

Yeah bizarre taking a vintage  car to a bike run....

Should get some attention on the total rig though.

Dennis is taking his 49 BSA with sidecar so his son can ride with.

There was a huge number of bikes last time I went..

Very well done, Bruce. And you can fit your antique Fiat inside there ?

Can we guess, in advance of you weighing it, what we think the weight of the empty trailer will be?

640 Kilos.....or 1,408 lbs.

Looks great!  Besides the really cool design, and build quality, a couple of things grabbed my attention, the center mounted rear stabiliser, and the pivoting hitch.

Very well done Sir! 😎

I'm under-bidding Sir Miles and going with 601.01 kilos (1,325 lbs).   Whatever the all up weight, here's to positive vibes that it meets your expectations! 🍻

Pictures of the bike rally are mandatory. 😉

The little Fiat fits with a couple of inches to spare length wise. Should be able to squeeze along the sides as well.

Miles 640 kg is close to the mark.

I'm thinking just on 600kg but need to take it over a weighbridge to be sure.

The car is supposed to be 650 kg but is just on 750kg for some reason.

I think when the body work was redone they went heavy plywood rather than whatever timber was originally used.

It was shipped with a wire mesh and canvas body apparently.

And an Ali body was fitted here.

Twice.

Max on the trailer is 1400kg so while I maybe able to load the car with a full tank.

Extra jerry cans would be pushing it.

There is a possibility I think of a weight upgrade

More capacity would be nice but discipline will work.

The Dodge will have to make up the difference.

It's rated at 6000lb loaded with another 4000lb towing capacity.

So water, tools, camping gear etc go in the back.

Have plans for a lift up door for camping etc but will check weights 1st.

Overall it seems to have worked out OK.

Just so long as the 1st road train passing doesn't end in it being blown to pieces.

Oh and nephew Gus recorded a 2 way 227 mph run on the salt flats yesterday.

Must be close to a 10 yr journey for him and his 2 mates to get to that stage in the 36 Hudson Terraplane.

Dennis has organised a group run on Royal Enfield's later this year.

21 days going through India up towards Nepal.

Said has has room for one more.
