Be
Β Beverley run.Β
Dennis made 55klm so.almost to Northam.Β
Felt he had proved the point by then so.when it fauled the 3rd spark plug he called it a day.
Loaded it on the backup trailer and headed home happily.Β

There was a password that I finally found. Think I removed it.

Give it a go.

Β Started measuring again for triple tree mods.
John said he will be selling the milling machine soon.Β So needs must.Β

Still asking me to sign in when I clicked your link.Β Maybe we have to have a membership to view pictures on this site, and your password removal just makes them public for members to view? Facebook used to be like that.Β

Pity not sure when this changed.
Will have another go latter

OK question.Β
How long is a piece of string type.
Stock trail is 116.1416 mm.
Well close to that.
Options are open.Β
Was thinking maybe 30mm?
Too scary?
I had to measure then remeasure repeatedly to see what the actual dimensions are.
Still not 100% accurate but guessing near enough
Should be 26.4 deg rake but I keep getting close on 30 deg.Β
The rear of the bike sits a little low but 25mm over 1480 mm is less than 1 degree.Β
According to my measurements.Β
Forget calcumalations.Β
I'm drawing it out on a piece of MDF sheet.
Thanks.

From my extremely limited experience on the R1100 GS with Dnepr:
Original trail (about 4" as setup with about 25% rider sag on forks, and about 30% rear rider sag) the original trail which is about 4" was very tiring on the shoulders, arms and wrists.Β Even though the bars are over 31" wide at the grips.Β
Old DMC of Washington kit reduced the trail to just under 1.5".Β That was slightly on the twitchy side.Β I probably could have gotten used to it. Didn't measure rake change, but noticed that the rake change caused the front wheel to deflect off rocks, ruts, etc., due to the change.Β Didn't like the design of the kit, or the negative effects of the dramatic rake change. Β
Dedome mod.Β Keeps rake the same.Β Changes steer head angle, such that trail is approximately 1.75". Β Pretty comfortable, although if I make a new fork brace, I might bring the trail down to that 1.5" again.Β More than anything because it seems like I'm always riding in ridiculous cross winds.Β So a slightly lighter steering would help for those 600+ mile days.
Hope this is at least a little helpful.Β Definitely looking forward to follow along with what you do, and your impressions. 🍻Β

Thanks and there is another issue you raised.Β
Taking account of sag's affect on trail.
I was thinking 30mm trail.
Then when I started drawing it out I measured 40mm.
An inch and a half is 38mm.
Will see.

Figured a work around for bending light walled pipe. Should work on tube as well. Cut some disks from 1/2" MDF sheet. Sanded till they were an interference fit then hammered them in till they were 4-6" either side of the bend area. 1 plug then fine clean sand then the other plug.Β For what I am doing it's OK to leave the sand in.Β
One day the plug will fall out and pile of sand will confuse someone.
Also old BMW teaserΒ
The trike is for sale.Β
Nope never asked how much
Β

This site saves drafts.
Still learning where they go.Β
Scratchings on a sheet of MDF.
Then shape a block of wood to see which way to go next.
Β

Drop triple trees.Β
Stops the height drop when the forks rake out.
That's the aim here but what mine will look like is yet to be seen.
Messing with the wooden mock up because my friend John doesn't have my naive confidence about being able to figure it out as I go.
What could go wrong???
Β

This one's for you Miles.
NSU
The name on the tank is a city in Germany where the bike was made.Β
This was a 35 year resto.
He ordered a new barrel from someone in Germany who did a small batch of them. Then he lost their contact info.
20 yrs went by and they placed an ad somewhere saying they had a barrel for a Steve in Australia. Word got to Steve along with the barrel.Β
Notably Steve Merrel engineered his own dies and pressed the complex sheet metal toolbox.Β And made many other parts.Β
Didn't have much time to examine it but will someday.Β
Β

Working withΒ bandsaw, a belt sander, a hand saw and a drill press. Getting close to dimensions wanted.
It's a matter of proving the design modifications from standard. The tricky bit's to come
Shame I have no CAD skills.

Your WAD (Wood Aided Design) is coming out very nice! 😎Β
