@calvin-watson Chemo brain normally wears off but not overnight. This is where having good routines helps you to stay organized and the scatterbrained lack of focus fades with time. FYI most of the stuff on the internet about chemo brain is rubbish, try and avoid it. The best source for good info is the chemo nurses; they see it all day every day. You will find that strong routines can help you rebuild memory not overnight but it works. Nothing wrong with working off of a to do list every day

Texas is about 500 each way and i will take Saturday and Sunday no hurry. I am avoiding cities of course.

Ya Steve. My chemo brain was much worse at first. I couldn't tell ya what 4+4 was. But now I know it's 6,,,,lol.

Anyway. It's been almost 10 years for me. I don't think I'm going to get any better. To talk to me I seem fairly normal,,,,lol. But I do have issues from the chemo. But I'm much better now. Head Explody

Well I tore into it!!

As I suspected the steering stem bearings are shot. All ready ordered the new steering and wheel bearings. Ordered a steering stem nut socket too!

Guess I'll go get the forks out and slide in the leading link just to see how it's going to look. Then the real fun begins with removing the triple trees.

Caretaker of Sidecar Willie, the removal of the triple trees is not a tough job. It's relatively easy once you get the fork legs out of there.

What BRAND of steering head bearings, and front wheel bearings...and seals...did you order ?

OEM Honda is fine, and works perfectly, but also All Balls brand is another good choice, for wheel bearings and seals, as well as steering head bearings and seals.

Very good.  They fit perfectly.

If you  can,  buy a tub of Timken RED bearing  grease.....and use so much, ya think ya gone crazy.

I find that  far too many  people  under-grease.....where they  should be  over-greasing.

Good luck with the LL install, I have a feeling you got this.

On the other issue, heading out on a trip. One always has the nervous feeling before heading out. I don't really have any health or age issues yet but usually a week or so before a planned trip I start to second guess my self. I Distract my self by going over the bike and my gear. Mentally going over how far it is and telling my self, well the bearings will go 20 K plus miles easy, the trip is only 2500 miles. No real difference between just going into town for coffee or just going for several days. It is really just back to back 150 mile trips after all.  Then making sure I have a few items just in-case.. You know, duct tape, mechanics wire, tie wraps, etc.  Knowing you can fix any thing with those plus having a few tools, like stuff to fix a flat tire helps the confidence level. Then, I look at maps and plan my route, which of course I almost never stay on, Ha! But I look at towns and spots along the way and look to see how far each is apart. If I break down here, is it busy enough that someone may be along, would I have cell service, can I walk out that far. Do I have stuff with me so that I can just wait out rescue in relative comfort 🙂 . Those kind of things. I also tell myself, maybe stupidly,  that if I do break down, etc. etc. it is all part of the adventure and it was meant to be. No point in fussing about it.

Once those sort of things are sorted out in my little pea brain I just put things out of my mind and trust those silly guardian angels that must watch over me.. Once ready, just head out, go ride and enjoy the trip.

The best item you can bring along on any tour is a comfortable pair of walking shoes in case the absolute worse happens.   Ha!

UPDATE:

Well I'm getting closer.  I haven't worked on it near as much as I've wanted to. By the time I get home in the evening I'm shot. It's hell getting old. So it's just been mostly the week ends.

I got the steering bearings done, and the handle bars put back. I need to decide if I'm going to take the time right now and re-do the po's hacked up wiring. It's horrible to look at.

The leading link is installed. I still need to mount the BT-46 on the rim and replace the front wheel bearings. Then I can mount the calipers and bleed the brakes.

If things go right I should get the sidecar mounted this week end. Heck. I still have to finish installing the convertible top for "Sidecar Willie".  Gotta keep the sun off my boy.

Then I will need to do a near by fully loaded camping trip just to see how things go. I've never went on the Wing. Normally I go truck camping in the F-150. Wilton is used to sleeping in a 10x14 canvas tent. His furry little arse is downsizing to a 3 man tent on a single wide air matress,,,,,lol.

Here's where I'm at right now. I had see what it looked like so I put the original wheel back on so I could at least sit on it,,,lol. I'm dying to ride it but I know I can't with out the sidecar.

Calvin,  Caretaker of  Sidecar  Willie,  it sounds like you are  making  great progress....don't  disparage yourself.

On the BT-46  , if it's  the rear tire....being  mounted on  to the  front wheel....make sure you have  it mounted  backwards....opposite the  directional  arrow.

The bike/Sidecar  WIRING may look hacked up horrible,  BUT....before you  cut any wires....check to see if everything  actually works....actually  functioning.

Then.... ONE WIRE AT A TIME.

On a serious note,  do whatever you  can to  attend the  Flint Hills Sidecar Rally,  because  surrounding  yourself  with  50+ other  Olde guys, and 5 young ladies, will comfort your  feelings and questions about  where you are  with this  Sidecar  project.

Every  person  there  will  offer you  encouragement.

AND.....if my alphanumeric logic is correct, I do believe that in the world of motorized vehicles, that following the F-150, the next letter in the alphabet would be a G...and the next procession of numbers following the 150, when multiplied by a factor of 10, would be a 1500, therefore, we can reasonably state that a G(L)-1500 supersedes (yes, that IS the correct spelling) a puny F-150.

Ergo, an F-150 being the predecessor, and that it has been superseded by the G(L)-1500, it would make total sense that all of your future camping be done on, and in, the Honda Goldwing 1500.

I hope that you followed that logic.

As far as tire pressure's go. I believe you recommended in Steve's thread that since the BT-46 is a REAR tire on the FRONT, it should have 40psi. Is that correct?

What psi should I run in my Austone taxi CAR tire that is on the rear?

What psi should I run in the 13'' car tire on the sidecar?

As far as the wiring goes. The main issue is he has 2 big rocker switches for the lower driving lights mounted in the ignition switch cover. One of the rocker switches is loose in the hole he cut too big. And there's a amp meter that flickers off and on. I followed the wires down to the driving light. It looks like there's a wire missing from a spade connector that is taped up, where he tied in for something. That might explain a random wire going through the inside of a saddle bag running the rear lights. Don't know until I get a good, deep look.

But I really need to swap out the switch cover. It has a broken mounting tab that holds it tight. He had a big hole for a ram mount for a cell phone holder. I used that hole to mount MY ram mount to hold my tablet. But it shakes a lot because of the broken mounting tab on the cover.

I think I'm going to remove the cb and put a factory blank panel there and mount a volt meter and hopefully one switch to work both lower lights? Just thinking about it right now.

I have a nice switch cover that I got from Paul with the leading link package. But it's brown and I need black. It also has the nice wood grain rubber pad on it. I fear it may leave glue residue all over if I peel it off to paint. I have this cover up for trade on the Goldwing forum. Does anyone here need a nice 20th anniversary cover? I'll trade for a nice black one,,,lol.

Calvin, the new tire on the front should be set at 40 psi.

The 13" sidecar tire should be set at 30 psi.

The Austone taxi tire on the rear wheel should be set between 35 to 40 psi.

Check on www.wingstuff.com for things for your bike, like rocker switches, etc.

And, since I will get to the Flint Hills Sidecar Rally before you, I will forewarn everyone to NOT tease you if you have a Brown ignition switch cover, rather than a Black one.

Could you elaborate on what a lower or higher pressure in the rear tire will do? What effects should I look for other than a higher pressure will wear out the center of the tread sooner I think? What's the trade off?

And. Can you guys start a collection for a gallon of green paint and a paint brush. Cause the first guy that says something about my RED sidecar and GREEN motorcycle has a paint job to do,,,,lol. I'll be glad to get everything mechanically in order. THEN maybe I can get the sidecar painted. I guess it bothers me more than anyone else. But it is kinda an eyesore. People are just nice and say it looks ok. Except my close friends who tell me it looks like crap,,,lol.
