Did it come with the mounts for your bike. Like look you have yourself a nice project. Now it the time to do some custom work on it and make it one of a kind.

Posted by: @chloespopI spoke with the seller last night who removed the sidecar from the bike after purchasing the pair. I asked him if he disconnected the brake lines for the sidecar brake. He said the brake was never hooked up which confirmed my suspicions. There were no wear marks on the disk brake rotor. There is very little wear on a tire and I wonder how long it was on the bike and the experience of the pilot?? I’m not sure why someone would pay extra for the sidecar brake and then not plumb it in?
I can’t help but wonder about the original install. Everything tells a story but the physics involved in bent swing mount makes zero sense given the visual evidence. Reminds me of a punch line to a joke……”and the farmer tells the bartender, somethings you just can’t explain”
About had coffee coming out my nose on that one. Hadn't heard it in years. 🤣 Thanks for the mid-week funny! 👍
Great to read the chassis damage is so limited. Not a two minute fix, but definitely fixable! Will look forward to see what you decide on the brake.
I'm thinking a separate pedal system, like cutting brakes, for the Screaming Yellow Zonker (anything that doesn't affect a BMW part means I can carry a smaller wallet to the parts store).

I heard back from Champion today and got the information I needed for the swing arm and suspension alignment. Everything should be reusable once the swing arm mount is straightened. I hope to be ordering the bike specific mount’s tomorrow.
I went into this with eyes wide open knowing I’d find more damage than was visible from the pictures on Craigslist and this has proven to be true. More damage to fiberglass, mounts and suspension. Everything is fixable or replaceable and it will on the bike at about 1/3 of the cost new. Learning everyday and having fun.
This weekend I’ll be removing the interior and separating the tub from the frame.
Stay tuned

The overall experience you'll have about sidecars in general is worth the investment! Coming out with a super cool rig is just a bonus. 😎
It is going to be a pretty epic ride when you're all done. Body style of that sidecar really matches the bike great.

Thank you, if everything works I may attend the event in Maine. It would be cool to meet a lot of members and do some riding!
What I learned in sidecar school today-
I initially contacted champion and gave them the make, model and year of my motorcycle and I did the same for the motorcycle that the avenger sidecar was attached to. They told me I could re-use all of my mounts and only had to purchase one bracket to attach the steering damper to the springer fork. I was excited that the cost would be very low.
Im not sure how they looked it up originally but today I was told I need an entire new bike side mounting kit and I think I heard $1,795 plus shipping. I waiting to get the quote in writing.
just paid my home owners and vehicle insurance for the year and with Christmas so close…….. I guess I learned that roads are not straight, sometimes have unseen hazards and even detours.
Instead of going to Maine for the sidecar rally. I may go onto Oak Island and start digging !!

Dave, we have a nice clear pic of the right side of the bike (Post 1). How about a similar pic of the Avenger's left side, and a pic of the mounts you have? There are some clever guys on here and you might get some useful suggestions.

Thank you for your response and helpful suggestions. As you can see I’m a newbie and just getting to scratch the surface of the experts in this community.
Below I posted pictures of the sidecar that includes the mounts that were on the other bike, photos of my mounts and some from the manual. There were 4 mounting points, 2 upper and 2 lower.
I have the front upper mount for the bike and the pieces for rear upper mount. The two lower mounts will be the challenge.
This must be the common practice between in the sidecar industry. Being going through this for years. Thet tell you one thing and when you go to order it's another thing. Good luck with your project at the end it should look good.

Morning,
My experience with car brake is solely limited to Terraplane with leading link style mono shock suspension. Brake is very effective, but the torque on disc forces the suspension to extend and raises the car. Bit counterintuitive.
My system has the same rusty disc brakes. Took pedal off for more foot room. Bike brakes alone can take me off the seat in hard stop. Course I’m rarely going over 50.

Definitely counterintuitive……… the front brake on the springer is adequate and I was hoping three brakes would be better. For the cost of a brake line and a fitting I think I’ll give it a try unless that is a bad idea.

I like the idea of three brakes. My old Ural had a nicely balanced rear brake setup. The BMW rig (Screaming Yellow Zonker) does not have the sidecar brake connected. Big advantage to the Ural, especially in a panic stop situation. But also just to have the whole rig stop in a straight line, with very limited input to the handlebars.
The added brake caliper requires additional fluid flow during activation. So the pedal stroke will be longer. Once the system is bled and ready for use, it would be wise to ensure there is enough room in the stroke that the master cylinder piston cup doesn't bottom in the cylinder bore during a duress stop.

I wish I could be there to pick up those pieces and look at them. From the pics, it looks like you have two pieces that make up the lower subframe for your bike (IMG 8415 and IMG 8419). But they don't really match up with page 10 from the manual. Are you sure that manual is specifically for your model and year Harley? Or that the mounting parts are for your Harley? If the lower subframe parts are incompatible, seems like a decent welder could knock up what you need without having to buy the entire kit from Champion.
Any Harley guys on here with a Champion?
Drone,
only a few of the pieces will work. I don’t know why champion made the mistake in the first place because the bike it was on what a swing arm frame with shocks,Dyna. There’s no way that kit was gonna fit on my bike.
I’ve pretty much decided I’m going to make the mount that attaches directly to my bike. It’s one long piece front to back and mounts in five different locations and has the two lower bracket mounts on it.
thinking I’ll bend it up out of conduit and make a pattern to later duplicate. I’m sure I can fabricate the pieces in the appropriate gauge steel pipe and flat bar, tack it together and have somebody else do final welding. I’ll draw it up and post it later. Unfortunately it didn’t sound like champion wanted to sell just that mount that attaches to the motorcycle and it would’ve been a fortune if they did.
Once that’s complete I’ll likely need help with the remaining puzzle pieces. I should’ve taken all the pieces completely apart. It would’ve been much easier to see what I actually have. Sorry about that
I would make the front and rear mount separate. Front lower mount so it ties from the right to the left of the frame that's the easy one. The rear mount one piece for the bottom and top. With that exhaust it looks like you should have no problem running the mount behind it and attaching the top of the mount to where the fender struts are mounted to.
