I just received the May/June 2026 issue of Sidecarist looked at the back cover photo and Timothy Finn's sidecar looks familiar. A member of the IMRG chapter I belong to has the same sidecar. He just completed it and attached to his bike. He will drive it in the Saratoga Springs Distinguished Gentleman's Ride this year and included its picture in his blog. A Californian who owns the same sidecar emailed him saying he had never seen another one like his. Now the third example of this rare sidecar shows up. In case Timothy Finn dosen't know the manufacturer of his sidecar it is Third Wheel Sidecar, Almeda. CA.
My research sez it's a Thompsons Cyclecar. one of my goals was to ride it in the Disguinshed Gentlemen ride in San Francisco/ Bay area.
I'm still short of a steering damper and attaching my sidecovers, check out my LED running lights, and my very wide german sidecar racing
handelbars. Timothy Finn
What a time for my bike to go down. It's 25 years old and has never had a major problem. Well, I noticed the amps started showing low and the volt guage was showing low as well. I put my ohm meter on it and it only showed 12.75 volts at 3000 RPM. So, we order a new stator. My OEM stator puts out 22 amps. The new stator should put out 28 amps. I need more amps for the extra lights on the Ranger sidecar. So, the new stator arrives. The instructions say, this is a plug and play. When the new stator was installed, and we started the bike, the stator shorted out. Thank you Jesus it didn't fry my hole electrical system. So, we pull everything back apart. Due to the stator putting out more amps, it is wider with more copper coils. When it rotates, it would hit the fly wheel that covers the stator and hit the bolts that holds the stator in place. Now, we need a new stator. We must drill the flywheel and counter sink the bolts with flat head bolts instead of the factory OEM hex head bolts. My friends, time is short. The rally is getting close. My wife and I may not have a bike to attend the rally. Oh, it needed a new clutch as well. Can I borrow some money?
