I'm using a Avon Triple Duty MKII tire on the front of the bike. It looks like it is "cupping". What may be causing that type of wear?

It could be lots of things.

How many miles?

It also could just be a old and defective tire. I've used a bunch of these and noticed some are quite old when sold to me as a "new" tire.

The wheel/tire could be out of balance.

Sloppy front end, Out of balance tire/wheel assembly, Out of round wheel. Any of these can cause cupping. An uneven vulcanizing process on the tire (sold as Seconds) can also cause uneven tread area wear.

I quit using 21" Avons in the '80's when I found that I could mount them with a teaspoon. That's how weak the bead was then. I figured if they went on that easily, how easy would they come off the rim and wrap around the axle with a flat. I've used Metzeler 880 Marathon and Dunlop Elite II's since. You won't mount them with a teaspoon.

Lonnie, it's 19" Avon Triple Duty MKII. Thanks for the addition suggestions.
