Perhaps someone can help.

Is it possible, or recommended, to use a car tire on the rear wheel of a bike used for a sidecar outfit.
I have been informed that this isn't wise but do know of even solo riders using car tires on the rear wheel. Particularly when they have had heavy use of the rear wheel. Tires wearing out quickly. I once had a car tire on a BMW R60s which had a stieb sidecar on. This bike had steel rims and spokes so may have had a different type of rim to hold the tire.

This is holding me back in changing over to a side car outfit again. The persons who adviced not using this type of tire on the back recommended that I should have the wheel changed- at a cost of $1800! If this is true then it puts the sidecar idea way out of my reach.

In the 50-60s the tires then where far more like car tires anyway and using them with rig made little difference to wear.

Don't know about your bike, but I have been running a car tire on my solo for the last forty thousand miles, no problems at all. will have my sidecar on in a few days, I hope. Bike in for a new fuel pump right now, thankful for extended warrenty, over five hundred dollars I don't have to pay! And should see mount kit from Jay at Dauntless in a few days.

auto tires will fit easily on 16" bike rims. Other size rims like 15" are sized larger than the auto rims. Some have mounted them successfully, others have been badly wounded when the bead split from over stretching. Check out the darkside.com site for more info on this.
