Chris, be careful when you test the knowledge of the Flying Monkey.....😉....because there is no L-7. The Lumbar section of the spinal column is L-1 to L-5...then we go south to the sacral/coccyx section. I am not just a pretty face (in fact this Olde "former" Redhead is not pretty anymore....but I am a retired Doctor, ...MD, 2 Ph.Ds.
Yes, there is proven evidence of "us" Redheads having a higher tolerance to pain. I turned that higher level of tolerance into Endurance riding...41 years member of the IronButt Association.
Having gone through several back surgeries myself, and dealing with 24/7 peripheral neuropathy, and spinal stenosis, is a primary reason I am a huge advocate for the Russell Day Long seats. More than 1.4 million miles on their seats thus far...and they allow me All Day Comfort.
You are probably familiar with RDL seats, and already know that they are just 7 miles north of Central Redding, California, so 151 miles north of you.
Yes, a RDL seat would look ugly on your hardtail H-D, butt (intentional pun) if it allows you to sit more comfortably, and your butt is hiding the seat when riding, isn't that worth the price of an ugly seat ?
Caution: offer ahead

I went and checked with my much smarter spouse about which L had the injury, and yet again she is right, and I am wrong...L1. I do have awful taste in music, so the name of the band fell out of my finger first.Posted by: @miles-ladueChris, be careful when you test the knowledge of the Flying Monkey.....😉....because there is no L-7. Or at least ridiculously tolerant one's.
Chris, you should have had your more intellectually inclined spouse read my post, wherein I stated.... Caution: offer ahead
She would have told you that it appears that the Flying Monkey is going to make you an offer..."ya can't refuse".
She would be right !
Offer: If you think that your body would benefit from sitting on a RDL seat, I will pay for half the cost of that new seat. The folks at Russell Day Long know me quite well, and they will simply bill me for 50 percent of what your new seat costs.
The RDL seat needs to be made on the OEM seat pan, not an aftermarket seat pan.
The entire premise of a RDL seat is that it has a Built-in suspension system INSIDE the seat, so it supports the gluteal areas of your butt, and puts no pressure on your spinal column. Built into the shape of a saddle, and very comfortable to ride on...as many miles as your Red Headed high pain tolerance can ride
You think about it. Go to www.day-long.com
Your half of the bill will be in the area of $ 300... maybe less.
If you decide to do this, it's best to do a Ride In appointment, as they will work on YOUR seat that day, and no one else can visit the shop that day, as the head saddle maker and head seamstress are both committed to making YOUR new seat. All other employees are making Mail-In order seats.
In 19 seats made for me, all in person, I have never needed an adjustment to the seats they made for me.
You will need to schedule a Ride-In appointment months in advance, so plan accordingly.
No, I don't own the business... just a huge fan of the product, and I send them about 6.85 percent of their business.
No, you are not special.... other than being a Red Head...as I help many other riders get their butts on to RDL seats.
Although, having a RDL seat could possibly hurt your badass biker image.... riding a hardtail H-D bike, yet having a seat with internal suspension system.
Oh, The Humanity !

They are that good. That said, the seat I have was built for Miles’ structure and I’m a little different shape and weight. Thus I have added a little to raise the overall height for my somewhat different shape. Someday I may get to them for some adjustments. Until then, Im going to enjoy the best seat I’ve ever had on a motorcycle.
Illegitemi non carborundum est!
Well, not only is my tiny partner much smarter than me, She helps me react to situations properly, and helps me navigate reality (I have a couple screws loose). So, I thank you for the generous offer, but I must decline.Posted by: @miles-ladueChris, you should have had your more intellectually inclined spouse read my post, wherein I stated.... Chris, what my friend Thane is saying in his post above, is that whilst I am built like your Red Headed Father, he is built like a Shrek "man".
BTW, the RDL seat that is one Thane's 2006 Goldwing w/Champion Daytona 2+2 Sidecar rig....has been used on 3 different Goldwings, and has more than 250k miles on it, yet....looks really good.
Go ahead, Shrek "man", show us a picture of that infamous RDL seat.

Sorry Steve, and King Cyrus l.... that RDL seat you are receiving had only about 500 miles on it, so.... not even broken in yet, and not... infamous.

Slowly making progress on drilling holes. I will duplicate what I did on the original chassis to get as much weight as close to the wheel as possible. I boxed in the area directly under where the axle block mounts, and hid some steel bar stock in the pocket. There are also two pieces of bar stock hidden inside the chassis between the mounting holes. So on the original, this added weight, along with the axle block, fender mount and fender added up to about 35 lbs. With a wheel tire combo that weighs 36 lbs. there was a lot of effort put in to try to keep that wheel on the ground. At least most of the time.
Chris, very impressive work 👍

Got sidetracked a bit, BIL called and said a coworker was looking for a project. Was my Mustang for sale? Well, no, but I looked at what folks are asking for the things now, and said sure, come on by. Had to rearrange the garage again to see the dusty thing, (covering it didn't work). He didn't buy it, but it got me thinking it might be time to let it go come Spring.
Anyway, I got all the holes done for the axle block, the ten through holes give me three possible lead positions. The chassis is actually upside down here, the weld seam of the tubing won't allow it to sit flat, so it will get tacked together while jigged upside down first.
