BMW R1100 GS Based Rig Project
Brian, if it's any consolation....I did have to replace one 20 amp fuse today, on my 2015 Honda Goldwing.
Other than that, it runs perfectly.
Two Million Mile Rider
Exploring the World in Comfort
You've got quite the project going on! 🤩 Will be very interested to get your thoughts on the 37/11 re-gear. I'm still debating that change. Right now SYZ will do 70mph and still be below 4k rpms. Which is really nice for long road trips, and fuel mileage.
I haven't started on this project yet. Won't get started until late spring when things warm up. Thankfully when the bike was originally built he installed the late model transmission, along with the aftermarket transmission support brackets. I'm pretty sure he did a ceramic clutch disc (will know when the engine comes out).
I'll get into the garage and see if I can find those two connectors you mentioned today. I'll try and get pictures for you.

Posted by: @briscoEDIT: I misread. I though you already were into this engine-changing chore. It will be quite a job, but worth it, I think
@scott-h You've certainly got it apart. I think BMW start building these around the engine.
I've got mine apart as well. Needed a clutch, is getting a newer M97 transmission and a 37/11 final drive. I'm also deleting the ABS.

Old and new clutch assemblies. Clutch disc was below minimum spec at 4.2 mm.

My M94 transmission sounded like it had a handful of loose bearings when coasting, and has randomly slipped out of third gear at times.
I've got it mostly back together now.

Those two connectors you asked about, on my bike are not connected to anything. They are tucked and zip tied together just behind the right side plastic seat mounting block and to the subframe
This bike has abs as well, so no idea what the connectors are for.
Hope this helps.

Scott, thank you so much!
I couldn't remember disconnecting them and was about to go nuts looking for something to plug them into. They don't seem to exist in the wiring diagram for this bike.
Those two connectors shall foever remain a mystery.
Good luck on the engine replacement, and if you ever need to compare anything to my bike, please ask!

My pleasure Sir! Maybe they are used on a different sub-model R1100? When I have the rig apart, if I remember, I might trace them down. Would be cool if they can be used for something cool. Like a potato launcher, margarita blender, Stroopwafel maker... 😎 Or something less useful like a heated seat.

Went out to lunch for a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
Wasatch Back Jack Cheese on Sour Dough, with a Pepsi and bag of Doritos at the Heber Valley Artisan Cheese facility.
Not only the best Grilled Cheese Sandwich this side of the farm, but a pretty awesome view as well.
On the other side of this mountain is Salt Lake City. There is a nice park like road that goes up and over this mountain, past a few popular ski resorts.
This big mountain (far left of picture) is known as Timpanogos. In front of Timpanogos some actor named Robert Redford has his Sundance Resort. The road his resort is on is also a park like road that runs across the Wasatch Range. A beautiful day ride makes a loop out of the two passes. I think the Sundance Resort still has a restaurant open with stunning views.
Took the long way over Wolf Creek Pass on the way to lunch. This road should still be closed due to winter snows, but has been open for a while. At least folks are still enjoying what little snow is left.
Coming back from lunch I had planned to stop at the Midway Veteran's Memorial. Normally the gate is open, and it is a nice little ride around the knob hill to the top where there is a panoramic view of the Heber Valley.
Then it was back to the Uinta Basin via I-40. A bit over 8,000' asl is Daniels Summit. This too should be covered in snow (except the road which is kept plowed), with lots of snow mobiles rented out to thrill seeking city folk. Tough year for the Daniels Summit Lodge staff.
Had a great ride, an excellent lunch, and all the old winter fuel and Stabil flushed out of the rig. All in all a fun day.
