Hi;QUestion here looking for advice!I have 28K miles on my 92 GL 1500.I usually take it to the dealer for service just got back from Sturgis and is due presently has ordinary oil in it!Plan on long term ownership of this rig but in view of the fact that it is heavily loaded etc with the Daytona 2+2 I am wondering if should have synthetic oil installed when I take it in maybe the differential too??Any other service should be done at this milage!Installed new rear tire at Rapid city they said the rear brake and bearings looked good. After having bearings fail on MottoGuzzi rig in past little paranoid about them but guess WIng has little better bearings than the MG!Just shopping for advice!!Hear some stories of Alternator failures is there any way they can check for that potential?Appreciattte your thoughts on this!!Thanks!

I had a 97 Wing that I sold in 09 with 82K on it. I used good dino oil, 15/40 Castrol or Rotella, and changed it every 3000 miles. I changed the final drive oil every other time and used standard 80/90 wt. Use a quality oil filter. Your Wing will love you. The bad alternators happened moreso in the mid to late 90's bikes. However, since you are likely running extra lights on the sidecar, I recommend the Compufire alternator with sealed battery. It is money well spent to get that 90 amp capacity.

At some point you should have tapered steering head bearings installed, and I also recommend the Progressive 450IAS rear shock. Both are great investments for a long-term GL1500.

I use all Amsoil synthetic on my rigs. Greater heat and wear protection and longer life.
