R1100GS flying the Ural !!!!
I'm new in the sidecar world and I'm riding actually a 99 R1100GS hooked to an Ural chair with the Dauntless sub-frame. I get the chair about 2 months ago, did the setting, and put about 1000 miles on the rig trying to figure out how to change the adjustments to get the perfect feeling. And every day I get closer. I have followed a 2 days sidecar training course last summer in Minnesota with a 250GZ + velorex. We learned there how to fly the chair. Well, after a couple tries I succeded but never tested with the chair loaded. We have moved to the East coast and next weekend I will follow a other sidecar training course in MA with Ironstone Ventures and of course with my rig. And I come to my point, I'm pretty sure that they will also teach us how to fly the chair. I'm trusting Jay's mounts but I'm a little worried about the frame of the bike, especially where the rear upper mount is hooked. I need to be reasured about the strenght of the Bike frame in extreme condition like flying the chair. Thanks a lotfor your thoughts and or advice.
Why Fly?
You know the balance point now so why stress your machine's frame by grandstanding?
If you want to run on two wheels, take the hack off.

Lonnie pretty much said it all.
If you are concerned about your frame or mounts, I suggest you use the schools bikes to practice flying-why abuse your own machinery?
When you get more familiar with your rig you can decide for yourself if flying the sidecar (in a safe environment, of course) is a good idea or not.
If you are still concerned about the mounts or frame, I would suggest you see if you can devise a way of strengthening the areas you find questionable. Flying the hack is not the only activity which places huge loads on the rig, it is just a manuever which can usually be avoided, if you so choose. Some of the other stresses can not be avoided and you don't want things coming adrift at a critical moment.
There are lots of GoldWing rigs out there, so I am sure you can get some experienced advice about thier strengths and weaknesses if you keep asking...
Thanks for your replies and advice.
I DO NOT want specially to ride on 2 wheels with my rig (I have an other GS for this purpose). But I do not want to be in a situation in the trafic where the chair's wheel will take of and not knowing how to react. In Minnesota, the instructor told us that it could likely to happen sooner or later, then you have to learn how to fly the chair, in case!!!. I just begin to feel the balance point, but if I ride empty, or with one of my 4 kids or with my wife, this point change a lot.
Where are the points or parts on the rig which are likely to be the most stressed (bike frame, arms, ...ect), and in which situation or manoeuvre, this stress would be max.
Any way, thanks for your response, and will try not to stress the frame of the bike, and overall not to stress my riding feelings. I will get back to you early next week after the training course in MA to let you know what I have learned.
