The bracket that mounts to the car was cut out and drilled. My stupid Tape measure lied to me (can you believe that?) and the holes were about 3/8" off:o( I turned up the amps on my TIG welder and plugged the hole and re drilled it.
Not bad. I used some 7018 stick with the flux knocked off for filler rod:o)then just ground it off flush.
Hey, More pictures:o)
I got that bracket all welded up.
It warped a little. But here is a shot from under the car in the front. You can see the pieces that hold the rubber. They will be welded to the frame.
I have also been messing around with my bike a little. I'm building a sissy bar and luggage rack. Here is what I have so far.

Wes,
I see you're learning of the effects of heat distortion and the pulling strength and distortion of a weldment that hasn't been stress relieved.
Your Arc Welding Procedure Handbook covers this phenomenon.

That warpage is easily corrected.
Yeah!!! A power line melted at work. We got the day off!!!!!!! I can work on my sidecar all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Judging from the color of the front mount, it's been raining in Burley too.
last year the total rain for June was .75 inches. This June its at 1.50 inches after just 2 weeks.
Its been a long few days here. I've been putting in 11 hour days at work and still trying to squeeze some time in on the sidecar. Tonight I got the back of the seat ready for the upholsterer. I made a box for the seat to sit on. The seat will be the lid. This will give a little extra storage. The lid/seat will be the main focus tomorrow. Then some body pieces need fixed. I'll post some pictures when I get off work tomorrow:o(
Ride Safe o/ Wes
Hi Wes i think your a Workaholic & you must be single! keep up the good work.
Here is what I have so far for the seat. I used some of those nuts that press into wood to hold the seat back to the car. I'll paint the wood then it will be ready to be covered.
This pertains to the car a bit. Here is what the dash of my wing looks like now.
I plan on adding 2 volt gauges and a clock to the bike. There will be a spare battery on the sidecar. I made this to hold the gauges.
Back to the shop :o)
You might want to extend the base a bit for more leg support and think about a adj foot rest, the one in my Calf car is adjustable, all it is is 2 sheet metal angles with cut outs so that a piece of pipe can be lifted and moved forward or back to adj for ones leg length it also helps hold the passanger in the seat,,,just a thought. I could PM you a pic if your interested in what it looks like in real life.
The boss Approves:o) o/ :o)
The seat hangs over the box a couple inches. It will have about 3 inches of foam on top of it. I asked her if she wanted a foot support and she didn't think she would need one. I angled the seat back some to hold her there. I can always add something later if needed.
The painter at work said he would paint my Wing for $150. It sounded like a great deal to me. This guy does some pretty nice stuff. I started pulling off the plastic. I have everything accept the main fairing off. I think I'll have it painted on the bike. Those Goldwings sure don't look like much with there plastic off. Should be painted this weekend:o)
