Hello. I am new to sidecars and Ural motorcycles. While riding my new (to me) 2019 Ural Gear Up home, the speedo and odo quit. Does any one here know if the speedo uses a cable (that I can't find) or some sort of electro sensor setup. All the little idiot lights work fine.Β

@grymsr welcome Steve! Β What a fitting introduction to the wacky world of three offset wheels cobbled together by ingenuity and madness!

Have no fear - someone with more knowledge about Urals will be along shortly to provide insight into the conundrum and help mend the issue. Β Meanwhile tell us a little more about your moto journey to get to this place in your life. lurker Β

While waiting on someone with Ural Knowledge to stop by, here is a video from Heindl Engineering showing where the speedo pickup sensor is, and a quick check for the sensor.Β  Looks to be a simple two wire sensor.Β  Normally these show high resistance when not over a metal piece, and low resistance when over a piece of metal.Β

Start about 2:20 into the video.Β

Sensor is installed but not tested yet. More issues have arisen. I post results later

Don’t have that model with the electric speedometer. Check the Soviet Steed forum for more information.

Moving the sensor deeper into the case seems to have worked. Time will tell.

BTW- This is how the first sensor looked after extraction.

If you look closely you can make out the wires twisted inside the shrink wrap.
