Hi folks,

I'm about to fit new oil seals to the front fork legs on my 1500GL anyone got an opinion on what grade oil to use? The Wing pulls a large (very) Oxford sidecar.

On my GL1500 rig I ran Automatic transmission fluid. Worked well.

When I got my Steerite trees, and heavy Progressive fork springs, for my GL1500, they recommended using 20 wt. fork oil, it seems to work well with my setup.

I did the same as Lloyd when I installed my Steerite tree and Progressive forks. Peter Smith at Sideeffects recomended 20 to 25 weight Bell Ray fork oil. Seems to be working for me with a Goldwing GL1500 and CSC Friendship III.

I'm stillwaiting for my EZ-Steer kit but I've got one fork leg half stripped. The oil that came out was vitually black. There are two tiny pit marks on the leg otherwise it looks fine.

My bike was set up by a dealer ( GL1500 & Champion Escort ) with the raked front end and progressive springs. I don't know what fluid they used in the forks but it was waaaaay too thick. Black and REALLY thick. Maybe it was gust getting too old and too thick after 20 + years ? I just put Belray 15w in them. Much better than before !!!
