@scott-h Chuckle. Just ordered a small generator from walmart, lets see how i get on with it. 90 day returns so that makes it easy.

Right On! I'll be stopping by your campsite at the rally in KS with the margarita blender.Β  😉Β  🤣

On a serious note, the Jetboil is pretty impressive.Β  For camp use one of those plastic funnels to pour hot water over the coffee grounds making a single cup at a time would be a quick way to start the day. 😎Β

Scott @scott-h, for those that do not drink coffee....any time of day or night, and those that don't drink margaritas....any time of day or night, there is a healthy alternative.

I gave Steve a can of this when I visited him earlier this month, and this is V-8 Energy drink that comes in about 8 different flavors. I drink about 5 cans of this a day, at home, or on the road. It does NOT give you the caffeine buzz that Red Bull does, but gives you an all natural drink that provides just enough energy to make a 70+ year olde man still ride his sidecar rig, with no jittery feelings like some chemical additive energy drinks can do.

I had a student once in an ALC setting, ask why he might be having a fairly jittery day.Β  He then proceeded to self-disclose having consumed 5 Red Bulls that morning.Β  Razz Β  I explained some of the physiology of the contents of such things and I do believe that the heart palpitations in a person as young as he, might have convinced him to forego such behavior in the future. Bruise Β

I do not have to go camping in 100 degrees right. He proceeded to self disclose, jeez the mind boggles. Edjumacation in the modern age no wonder kids are dumb; went to a gas station this morningΒ  and the guy on the till could not work 3.09 x 3!!?? Could woke be an excuse for i have no clue and its too late to wake up?

With new math it can be solved easily.Β  First you multiply 3 by 2, that's 6, then you add 3 and that's 9.Β  Then you take .09 and change it .10.Β  Multiply 10 by 2, that's 20, then add another 10, that's 30.Β  Then you simply subtract the .03 you left out and that's 27.Β  And then you add .09 from the first step and you get your total -- $2.79!Β  Voila! 😀Β

@ned 9 dollars and 27 cents in old fashioned non calculator addition =) No collage i was working for a living before i was 16 and paying into the house every week apart from my first weeks that was all mine =) Shame they do not do that now, no responsibility or accountability at all. Boy can you imagine the uproar if kids had to pay right from the outset.

This is not "new" math - it is Common Core and might work well for small sums and such, but does not lend itself well to significant mathematical activity.Β  I would have you know, that Nebraska, my home state, is the only state that never adopted Common Core anything.Β  I think we've done pretty well.

Thane

I learnt maths 60 years ago with a pencil and paper and we even had joined up writing=)

It was a time when teachers cops and parents worked together. The cane hurt but it did the trick. We quickly learnt right from wrong. If you were different, tough shite you just had to get on with it the best you could. So glad i am not a parent in today's world

So just looking at options and it seems that bluetooth headphones will not connect to a normal Garmin GPS 86. My older Ipad mini 4 is too old to connect with a cell network network so back it goes to Amazon Looks like my only choice for a decent GPS is to get a newer Ipad that will connect to a network.

Doesn't Amazon haveΒ  Amazon Day coming up sometime soon?Β  Maybe find a good deal on a "last year's model"?

Samsung 9" tablet and Samsung Note 4 cell phone mounted in the Jeep using Back Country navigator.Β  This was probably circa 2015 -2016. Tablet has a really good GPS chip compared to the phone. Something to look at when choosing a tablet.Β  Not all use the same GPS chipset.Β  Tablet was still receiving GPS signal in the garage with the door closed, and hard top on Jeep with aluminized insulated pads.Β  Phone wasn't getting a GPS signal.Β  Similar issues in heavily forested areas, and in steep narrow canyons.

Tablet mounted Verticle

Yes Amazon have prime day coming up on the 17th. I figure that IPad may be a decent map system as its optimized just for that. I have my couple of year old ipad mini wireless only but it will be enough to try out with the headset etc.

I started on my gps journy last year. Haven't fully tested it on the bike yet. It will be blue-toothed to my Cardo headset.

Β

I'm using a Samsung Active 2 tablet. They also have a active 3. These are heavy duty models that is supposed to be weatherproof. Ruggedized I think they call it.Β  An iPad is not.

Β

For initial testing I paired it to myΒ  Iphone while in the truck. It worked fine. I may or may not get it it's own cell plan. You can get a data only plan too.

Β

I have it mounted with a ram mount in a ram mount case specific for the active 2. This is 8''. Anything bigger would hit the handlebars.

Β

I'm also showing my iPad. But it's dedicated to my drone and I didn't want to tear it up on the bike.

Yeah it takes awhile to get sorted. Shame the Garmin will not connect/pair via bluetooth. Not sure how much waterproof will matter as not much water gets round the windscreen. I will likely get a decent case which will help.

I find the most rain hits the phone mounted at the bars when the bike is stopped.Β  Traffic lights, stop and go, fuel-bathroom breaks, etc..Β  Easy enough toΒ  toss a cover over it, or just put it in a pannier/top box.Β  👍Β

Cover it with a ziplock baggie, using a rubber band to cinch up the lower part.
