Morning peeps

I am thinking about putting a luggage rack on the trunk lid of my sidecar.

Is it a good idea, its to carry a tent rolled up. Will the lid take the load?

I am assuming that keeping the tent within the profile of the sidecar?

Looking back at the pics from last summer, I would recommend a fair bit of bracing inside the lid if you do add a rack.Β  Maybe look at upgrading the hinges as well.Β

Sam, and his Caretaker, Steve...my personal opinion is NO...do not add a rear rack to the lid of your sidecar trunk.

Right now you do NOT have a rear rack on your motorcycle rear trunk...and that is a very good thing.

If your purpose in wanting a rear rack on the sidecar trunk is to carry a rolled up tent, then strap in down onto the rear seat of the bike, where a passenger would sit. Given that the motorcycle is not going to lean, and that the space between the motorcycle and the sidecar will always stay the same, you can strap that rolled up tent onto the back seat of the bike, and allow it to encumber space towards the sidecar, rather than just be centered on the rear seat. That way it does NOT stick out too far to the LEFT of the bike, but it can stick out to the RIGHT of the motorcycle seat, and not touch the sidecar at all.

I understand your issues with mounting and dismounting that bike, but a rolled up tent would be ideal to be strapped to the rear seat of the bike.

That is the entire point of those passenger grab rails...for using ROK straps to secure the tent to the rear seat.

Rather than bungees might I recommend (to everyone) use ROK Straps instead. Β Much safer, longer lasting and far more adjustable.

Miles

Thanks for your normal detailed reply i will certainlyΒ  investigate the rear seat angle rather than the rack. Its a new tent just waiting for it to arrive then i can explore the actual size. Its an inflatable looks like fun, nice big full height doorway =)

ROK straps now i know what they are thanks to Thane and google i have some normal straps but the nice meaty handle looks useful, Walmart today!
