Next Summer will be the 10th annual Smackdab Summer Solstice Run on June 21 (actual Solstice day!)

https://advrider.com/f/threads/the-smackdab-summer-solstice-run-kansas-to-north-dakota.994229/

I asked the organizer if any sidecars had completed the run in the intervening years and he said "not that I am aware of." I intend to rectify that oversight. I'm keen to finally get back to the ride on the 10th anniversary of being the first ever finisher of the run, this time on a sidecar rig.

Anyone interested in joining me?  630 miles or so on the longest day of the year.

I'm betting Thane will be driving his new-to-him '06 Goldwing w/ Champion Daytona 2+2 sidecar rig.

Turns out 2024 was the 10th anniversary.  My apologies.

That said, if anyone is willing to join, I plan to ride the 2025 Smackdab run with the 06 Wing/Champion Escort rig and enjoy the pre-ride festivities.

Anyone in?

I made a reservation in Rugby for Saturday.  Not a lot of places available from what I could tell.  Even with upcoming knee repair the next week I'm still looking forward to doing this again.

Or is he expressing what happens to weekend warriors who play rugby?

The meniscus on my left knee is torn on both sides.  Surgery is required but not urgent.  Post surgery recovery requires two weeks of elevation, ice and zero weight followed by any number of PT sessions.  Scheduling surgery during the school year is a non-starter because it's far more difficult to create a functional sub plan than to simply be there teaching, I'm opting for after the end of the school year.

The rest of the schedule is established by the planned riding events already on my calendar.  First event is April 24-25 and there will be one riding thing or another virtually every weekend until June 23.  After that there are no events on my calendar and it's too hot to be quite as much fun by the end of June and into July.

Thus, End of June for surgery, recovery in July and back to school by mid August.  QED.

Of course, if there is a sudden change in the condition of the components of my knee caused by an unexpected event, all bets are off.  Presently I go nowhere without a fairly substantial brace on that knee.  I'm really a hopeful and sometimes bullheaded kind of hominid who knows that there is a finite amount of time apportioned and I choose not to spend it with excessive caution.

The STRANGEST part of this whole thing (at least from my perspective) is that it will be myself who maxes out our family deductible/out of pocket on our insurance plan this year.  Previous events have always been Karen's. Head Explody

You had me at "hominid".....but prior to that,  you had to go and get all serious about the connection between Rugby and your knee surgery.

Scared

Today is the last actual day of "school" for our year.  Tomorrow will be a ghost town (track), Monday is Elementary T&F day and most of the HS students will be out assisting or watching their little sibs.  Tuesday is a ½ day for checking out.  After that, Summer break begins for the kids and I get to be done on Friday.

Getting busy!

Woo Hoo!  Summer Vacation. 🤩

Perfect time to to get any debilitating surgeries done, postponing that "honey-do" list of home improvements.  😉

Ride down from Bow to Smith Center for the pre-ride and overnight was one of the least pleasant rides I’ve ever been on.  30+ mph headwind gusting to 45 in 104 degree air temp was pretty brutal even if for only 145 miles 🤬 Bruise

Getting ready for the pre-ride gathering now.  Met a couple of guys here for the ride.  Turns out the “other” motel in town is being torn down so not sure how anyone is getting by for lodging tonight
